The Student Activity Unit (UKM) Basketball of Malikussaleh University held a 3 x 3 Unimal Basketball Championship at the Unimal basketball court, Bukit Indah Campus, Lhokseumawe, Aceh (Indonesia) early last July. In the final match, the Faculty of Law became the champion by defeating the Faculty of Engineering 6-5.

The championship was attended by nine teams namely, the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Business, and Faculty of Law. Some faculties have sent more than one team.

In the fight for third place, the Faculty of Medicine team managed to beat the Faculty of Social Sciences. While the best player was won by Azwar Aldi Hasibuan from the Faculty of Law. The Unimal Basketball Championship also involves several other SMEs to participate, such as student regimentas security and PMI (Indonesian Red Cross) as a medical officer who handles injuries to players.

The General Chair of the Malikussaleh University Basketball UKM, Ahmad Alwi Hasibuan, said that the purpose of this competition was to increase solidarity and maintain friendship between faculties. "This tournament is also to find talented players for SMEs themselves," said Ahmad Alwi, some time ago.

The supervisor of the Universitas Malikussaleh Basketball UKM, Razif, M.Si, said that the event was a moment for athletes at Malikussaleh University to show their best abilities. Several players in the competition will become Malikussaleh University players in various basketball matches, both regionally and nationally. "The Basketball Championship is also a means to find talent," said Razif.

Ahmad Alwi Hasibuan added, that the 3 x 3 Unimal Basketball Championship is an annual activity of the Malikussaleh University Basketball UKM. However, in the last two years, the competition had to be stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic. []

Meriahnya 3 x 3 Unimal Basketball Championship

Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) Basketball Universitas Malikussaleh menggelar 3 x 3 Unimal Basketball Championship di lapangan basket Unimal Kampus Bukit Indah, Lhokseumawe, awal Juli lalu. Di laga puncak, Fakultas Hukum menjadi kampiun dengan mengalahkan Fakultas Teknik 6-5.

Kejuaraan tersebut diikuti oleh sembilan tim yakni, Fakultas Kedokteran, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Fakultas Teknik, Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Fakultas Hukum. Dari beberapa fakultas ada yang mengirimkan lebih dari satu tim.

Dalam perebutan juara ketiga, tim Fakultas Kedokteran berhasil mengalahkan Fakultas ISIP. Sementara pemain terbaik diraih Azwar Aldi Hasibuan dari Fakultas Hukum. Unimal Basketball Championship juga melibatkan beberapa UKM lain untuk berpartisipasi, seperti Menwa sebagai keamanan dan PMI (Palang Merah Indonesia) sebagai medis yang menangani terjadinya cedera pada pemain.

Ketua Umum UKM Basketball Universitas Malikussaleh, Ahmad Alwi Hasibuan, mengatakan tujuan diadakan perlombaan ini untuk meningkatkan solidaritas dan menjaga silaturahmi antarfakultas. “Turnamen ini juga untuk mencari pemain berbakat untuk UKM itu sendiri,” ujar Ahmad Alwi, beberapa waktu lalu.

Pembina UKM Basketball Universitas Malikussaleh, Razif, M.Si, menyebutkan event tersebut merupakan momen bagi atlet di Universitas Malikussaleh untuk menunjukkan kemampuan terbaik. Beberapa pemain dalam kompetisi tersebut akan menjadi pemain Universitas Malikussaleh dalam berbagai pertandingan basket, baik di daerah maupun nasional. “Basketball Champhionsip ini juga sebagai sarana untuk mencari bakat,” ujar Razif.

Ahmad Alwi Hasibuan menambahkan, 3 x 3 Unimal Basketball Championship merupakan kegiatan tahunan UKM Basketball Universitas Malikussaleh. Namun dalam dua tahun terakhir, kompetisi tersebut terpaksa dihentikan karena Pandemi Covid-19. [ayi]
