Destination Now Known

Saturday we went for a drive, my wife was driving, I did not know what the destination was until we were almost there. I did get to take a lot of pictures along the way, and have a few post highlighting some of the drive. When we passed summit pass and started on the downhill slide I thought I knew, but with a lot of areas to go and take pictures of I was unsure until we pulled into the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. If you visit Alaska a must see stop.

On with the walk, and it was a long one, not a five minute one, more like a few hours, so much stuff to take pictures of. First up, and I think it is because they know that when people come to Alaska they want to see it, is the moose. He has a nice little area and there is a little house thing for people to go and take pictures of him from inside and get a pretty good shot. I thought this one came out pretty nice and it was from on the walkway area.

Up next a Muskox and a few signs describing them. I did not reduce the sign to much and I hope they are still readable if you view the full sized picture. Here is the first one a lone Muskox just wandering close so people could get a picture of it I think.

Just past the signs the area opens up again so that you can get some pictures. I thought this was a nice view of them seemingly out in the wild. If you can ignore the fence.

Time for a break

I had to take a little break, but found a nice rock, to sit on and enjoy some water while looking at this view. This was only part of the walk, but I think enough pictures for now.

nice view for a sit down on that 3rd one, thanks for sharing

There were a few take a break places and some benches, but I thought a rock and that view was a good break spot.

Thanks for taking us along with you a place I would love to visit

Not many of us can go for a Wednesdaywalk and see a muskox or a moose! Your photos are wonderful

It kind of helps when they are a captive audience, sort of a zoo, only bigger range area, and no tiny cages.

howdy sir bashadow! holy moly these are fantastic photos! do you guys live in Alaska? I'd go on that walk anytime. Well maybe not in the middle of the winter if it's even open then. But I didn't know about that Muskox, very interesting. thank you sir, great post!

Yep, live in Alaska, not sure if they are open year round or not, I really don't like to drive through the mountains in the winter anymore. Heck I don't like to drive in the winter at all, but have to. I thought I would get a picture of the story sign they had, I was fortunate that paint.net allows to tilt the pictures a little bit so was able to straighten them up some and square them up and keep them somewhat readable.

howdy again sir bashadow! wow to live up there in the winter time..ya'll just have to stay indoors all the time? How much are your heating bills?? yikes. and do you take vitamin D supplements?

Yes the sign was very readable so that turned out really well, great job!

Are you an Alaska native or a transplant from elsewhere?
