Allgäu Adventures Day 1 - Alpsee and Neuschwanstein Castle
After our forest adventure near the Lech, it was time to recharge our batteries. We went to the Schloss Brauhaus for lunch, moved into our room in the Hotel Restaurant Helmerhof and got ready for the second adventure of the day.
Nach unserem Waldabenteuer nahe der Lech, war es Zeit neue Kräfte zu tanken. Wir gingen zum Mittagessen ins Schloss Brauhaus, bezogen unser zimmer im Hotel Restaurant Helmerhof und machten uns für das zweite Abenteuer des Tages bereit.
The plan was to visit one of the world's most famous sights, the Neuschwanstein Castle of the Bavarian King Ludwig II. But first we went on the hiking trail along the Alpsee, one of Germany's cleanest lakes, in the immediate vicinity of the royal castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein.
Auf dem plan stand die Besichtigung einer der wohl international bekanntesten Sehenswürdigkeiten, das Schloss Neuschwanstein des bayerischen König Ludwig II. Doch zunächst begaben wir uns auf den Wanderweg entlang dem Alpsee, einer von Deutschlands saubersten Seen, in unmittelbarer Nähe der Königsschlösser Hohenschwangau und Neuschwanstein.
The approx. 5km long hiking trail along the Alpine Lake is easy and accessible for everyone. From the path you have a great view of the Lake, the Saeuling, at the foot of which the lake lies and of course the castles and the imposing Museum of the Bavarian Kings.
Der etwa 5km lange Wanderweg entlang des Alpsees, ist einfach und für jedermann begehbar. Vom Weg aus hat man eine tolle Aussicht auf den See, den Säuling, an dessen Fusse der See liegt und natürlich die Schlösser und dass imposante Museum der bayrischen Könige.
The swan was the heraldic animal at the time and can therefore of course also be found here at the lake.
Der Schwan war seinerzeits das Wappentier und ist somit selbstverständlich auch hier am See anzutreffen.
There are several bathing opportunities along the lake and we definitely needed to cool off before we started the arduous way to the castle. It was probably the coldest water I have ever swum in, but the refreshment was very good.

But when you get to the top you realise that the effort was worth it. The view from up here is fantastic and the castle is really a breathtaking building. Only when you stand in front of the castle do you realise how huge it is.
Es gibt mehrere Bademöglichkeiten entlang des Sees und auch wir hatten definitiv eine Abkühlung nötig bevor wir uns auf den beschwerlichen Weg zum Schloss begaben. Es war dass vermutlich kälteste Wasser in dem ich jemals geschwommen bin, aber die Erfrischung tat sehr gut.
Der weg zum Schloss, welches auf einem Berg steht, ist sehr steil und daher mühsam zu begehen, vor allem dann wenn man schon den ganzen Tag gelaufen ist.

Aber oben angekommen realisiert man dass sich die mühe gelohnt hat. Die Aussicht von hier oben ist fantastisch und das Schloss ist wirklich ein atemberaubendes Gebäude. Erst wenn man direkt vor dem Schloss steht, realisiert man wie riesig es doch ist.
The absolutely best view of the castle is from the nearby Marienbrücke. But waiting 45 minutes to get on the bridge was a bit too much for us and the view wasn't worth it. We just wanted to get down from the mountain, back to our hotel and finally take off our shoes and put our feet up.
The next day the biggest challenge was waiting for us, the ascent of the Tegelberg.
Die absolut beste Aussicht auf das Schloss hat man von der nahegelegenen Marienbrücke aus. Doch eine Wartezeit von 45min um auf die Brücke zu gelangen war uns dann doch etwas zu viel und die Aussicht nicht wert. Wir wollten nur noch runter von dem Berg, zurück in unser hotel und endlich die Schuhe ausziehen und die Füße hochlegen.
Am nächsten tag wartete schließlich noch die größte Herausforderung auf uns, die Besteigung des Tegelbergs.
