His Plaid

      Duncan's men moved about the camp, grinning broadly like the idiots they were.

      His patience, already worn thin from the day, was teetering on a cliff's edge. The next poorly stifled snicker was going to earn the entire rotten bunch a week of ditch duties once back on Sinclair lands. What had gotten into his men? One hasty wedding and his hardened warriors became tittering milkmaids! He was ready to thrash the whole lot.

      His dark gaze turned to the river, where his bride was preparing for their first night together. Bridgit Sutherland, no Sinclair now, he thought with pride, had grown more beautiful than he had anticipated. Her looks wouldn't have stopped the wedding but, they surely made the prospect of marriage more enjoyable.

      She was fiery as well, a trait he had admired when she faced his men with nothing but a branch and her boot. It had taken supreme effort not to laugh when Gavin had received a boot to the face while tring to calm her! The fierce lass had put up more of a fight than most of her pathetic guards. The thought of her wearing his colors had stirred his blood, had made his inner beast howl with possession.

      A hand slapping down on his back tore Duncan from his thoughts. Without turning, his arm arched back to grab the only man of his group that was foolish enough to dare touch him. Gavin's face, still sporting a distinct boot print, was alight with glee. Wordlessly, he waggled his eyebrows and gestured to Duncan's tent, the cover of which had just fallen closed. She was back!

      The fires of anticipation that he had banked all day roared to life within him. Duncan dropped his soon to be ditch digging friend and strode to his tent. The sniggering no longer worthy of his attention. His Bridget was in there and, after tonight, she would no longer be in danger of being married off to that damned McCullough! Her father could rant and splutter all he'd like but he would never dare stand against the Sinclairs.

      As he entered the tent, Duncan's heart slammed at the vision before him. There in proud glory, stood his Bridget, his blue plaid wrapped around her, bare shoulders peeking over the top and an inviting smile on her lips.
