Fall Pumpkins #club100

It is October, so I guess I must face the reality that Summer truly is over. The warm weather has been hanging around longer than usual, but it doesn't matter. The garden is done. The vines have been frost killed. The pumpkins are not going to get any bigger. So I picked them and moved them to the front of the house where I could show them off to the neighbours.

I did not get a huge amount of pumpkins this year. I blame the cool Spring temperatures. I did get a few interesting ones, however.

It is my experience that the small round pumpkins are best for baking pies, and I managed to grow a few of those. Larger pumpkins with warts or unusual colours are best for Fall decorations and Jack O' lanterns.

I've got some sort of blue Hubbard squash in there. I haven't eaten one before, but it is supposed to be like a sweet potato with a nutty hazelnut flavour. We shall see. It should go well with Thanksgiving dinner.

These next pumpkins are not mine, but they certainly are impressive.

They belong to a lady who lives in the next village over and she is trying to sell them at crazy prices. Notice she wants 20 dollars for that big orange one, and 50 for the dark orange one. !!!

She wants 100 dollars for the big white ones! I can't even get over the nerve of her, but I will say that her pumpkins are huge. She must use some serious fertilizer!

She did get a good haul of them. I doubt she will sell them at these prices, but you never know. The only thing I know for sure is that I won't buy them.
