Local Tourist Chased From Pool In 'Electrifying' Experience

Bill Blixton of Beloxi, Mississippi was chased from a local Florida motel swimming pool late last night by an electric eel.

When asked about the incident, Mr. Blixton gestured wildly, going on in windy detail in an exceedingly hoarse voice, “I don't know HOW that thing got into the pool. But it was REAL, I tell ya! I'm on vacation. With the wife. Plumbing supplies."

"You don't say."

Mr. Blixton didn't even break stride, "We were out for a late-night swim. I jumped in at the shallow end, and slowly paddled toward the deeper parts of the pool. Just enjoying myself with a lazy back stroke in the balmy night air. The misses was up on the deck in a chaise lounge, having a smoke, waiting to get in, and noticed the thing before I did. She shouted, look out, Bill...there's a sea creature in the pool! Of course, I didn't believe her at first. Thought she was joking. She's funny that way.

Then things got dicey. Suddenly, a long, dark, snake-like form swam toward me from the area of the concrete steps, as I passed the 'Depth 4 Feet' sign, stenciled on the pool edge. The thing was big, thick as my forearm. Nasty...looking like it was all business. I kicked hard, and swam faster and faster toward the ladder at the other end, and it kept following me, going faster and faster along with my strokes.

I tried some old Navy battleship maneuvers. Large, looping Schmidt Circles, hoping to throw it off my trail. But the darn thing knew every trick in the book, and just followed along. All the while blinking it's odd, electric-yellow lights as it went. The body flashed in short little pulses from it's long, snaky sides. Looked like some kinda Morse-code to me. On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off. Like it was mocking my strokes. It was downright MADDENING!

It made one last long, lazy loop, then veered straight for me. I swam as fast as I could toward the edge, and got up the ladder, just in time. The missus kept hollering "hurry Bill, hurry." And you bet I DID!"

“WOW! Did it bite you?”

Mr. Blixton finally took a much-needed breath. “No, but it gave me quite a jolt!”

“It electrocuted you?"

“NO, just scared the HOOEY outta me."

“Oh."

“I ask ya, what's something like that doing in a chlorinated pool in Southwest Florida ANYWAY? And on MY vacation!!?”

“Who knows, maybe some kids thought it would be fun to toss it into the pool."

“Where would they even GET an eel? And whose watching these kids today anyway!?”

“I have no idea Bill, but seems like it was quite a SHOCKING EXPERIENCE for you. Ha Haa! Well, that's all for now. This is Jim Vandersleet, reporting to you live from the edge of the pool at the El Sirocco Motor-Coach Motel. Remember folks, You Saw It Here First, on KRPPNWZ News, Dade County, Florida."

You survived the electrifying water snake?! Also, where's Wilson²? Did you went on vacations without him?

I left Wilson² at home (sad, yes, but the plane seat is extra, even for a small, spheroidical friend.) But the GOOD news is, I found a NEW friend. In the woods. TexWilson³...he's a bit gnarly from living 'out and about' for awhile, but maybe will show up somewhere soon in the land of Steem. ( :
As for the snake in the pool...I try to avoid electricity and water, particularly with long, slippery critters with teeth. Yikes...

Don't cheat on Wilson!! Ahahah

Shocking!! Simply shocking! You can thank the Navy now for those handy-dandy maneuvers they taught you.

If you had brought Wilson, he could have warned you sooner!

Have a fun vacation and be careful! I'm taking you home with me - so behave!!!

Upped and Steemed

Thanks for the tip, muchly appreciated. As for those maneuvers, weren't very helpful...guess I should have payed more attention during training.
Now wouldn't THAT be fun...hanging out with DSW...maybe on a cruise. We'd probably get in good mischief. Cheerio(s)

Don't tell on me, we're on pretty good speaking terms ( :

I’m very happy to see your post again….

The light in the swimming pool is amazing and your story is very exciting. Luckily, I cannot swim, so I’ll not ever meet that kind of serpent for sure…. Ha ha! ;D

Yikes! Well you never know what you will find in a public pool!
