Cracker School House

This photo was taken while I was on my expedition this past Sunday to Silver Springs Primitive Art Show. We visited the village inside of the park and visited inside several of the houses. This was the school house that also dubbed as a church.

This was a perfect match for Monochrome Monday as this building is a replica of a building from the late 1800s.

This is a photo of the outside of the school / church. We were given a brief school lesson and history. The teacher was normally in her teens around the age of 16. She taught many different grade levels in one class room. She also had to teach the children about livestock so the family members who did not go to school would learn from the family member who did attend.

Another interesting fact is books were limited and expensive to obtain so they printed things and placed copies of the writings on the back of a slate board. Each student would rotate the slate board so they would all have a turn with new reading material.
