Governor of New Hampshire Declares Legal Cannabis The Next Major Battle

in #cannabis5 years ago

The government has been fighting a war against drugs (and losing miserably) for several decades now. After all that time drugs are still winning.

Now, the governor of NH wants to reignite the nonsense all over again, having recently declared cannabis legalization as the next major battle to contend with.

This is a state that operates with the official motto: Live Free or Die.

It would seem that if they view legal cannabis as the next major battle, that their definition of freedom is quite limited. If we aren't free to decide what we put into our own bodies then we aren't truly free.

Governor C. Sununu has reportedly recruited help from an anti-cannabis lobbyist to spread the message that legal cannabis in the state of NH would infringe upon the state's efforts in attempting to address the opioid crisis.

Someone might want to show Sununu some of the research that has recently indicated that legal cannabis helps to decrease fatal opioid overdoses.

Medical cannabis has been shown to reduce opioid prescriptions and surveys show that it's been preferred by many patients as a safer alternative over opioids to managing their pain symptoms.

If NH officials truly want to fight the opioid epidemic then they should embrace cannabis freedom all around.

Sununu has already made it clear that he plans to veto any cannabis legalization bill that might end up on his desk. As well, they reportedly hope that their marketing efforts will effectively relay the message to people in the region that Big Tobacco and Big Pharma are morphing into Big Marijuana and they don't think that the state needs "more access to more drugs”.

Despite the opposition from the top however, lawmakers have suggested that we might see cannabis legalized regardless. Other political figures in NH have signaled that there might be enough support from the Senate and House of Representatives to override a veto from Sununu and that legal cannabis is likely to pass sometime in the near future
