Happy Groundhog Day 2019~!! I went out on a limb and said that Punxsutawney Phil was going to see his shadow!
He did not see it!!!
Stay tuned to see about that early spring!! It is only the 19th out of 123 times that he has not seen his shadow. Wow!!! And there were ten years that no records could be found.

"Phil, you ain't nothing but a groundhog
A digging' all the time
He ain't never predicted right
And you ain't no friend mine"

Despite closing out January with an arctic blast, I am reminded that you can find beauty in the most quiescent things. I was out running and started whining about the glacial air that bit and dried my skin, but then there are the days that the sun does come out and you see the fragile beauty that was left behind from the fall.

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”― Lewis Carroll

Don't ever forget what wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, so we must try harder to give everyone the proper focus.

Later that night
I held an atlas in my lap
Ran my fingers across the whole world
And whispered,
"Where does it hurt?"
It answered,

"Everywhere"
"Everywhere"
"Everywhere"

Love the Lewis Carroll quote! I’ve seen it before! Happy Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day!! Ole Phil didn't see his shadow! Yahoo!!! I hope that for once he is right! :)) We could use a little sun and shine and warmth here in Washington, DC!

Maybe he was right, sure felt like Spring today. Hit 53 and after -15 that is some serious heat!

Oh, don't worry! Winter is right around the corner for you again! :) I can feel it! Not that I wish any foul weather for you and such!

That would be just mean!! May your groundhog be as correct as ours! I hear it is 70 degrees at home (so says the kids!)

Stay warm!

Going down to 12 Friday night! Oh you have been known to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude from time to time, you cant fool me. My misery provides a bit of mirth now and again!

Yeah I saw 73 in Moneta. I am so coming home!

No way!!!! I am totally not a schadenfreuder!!! Pfft!

Sorry for the 12 degrees. I seek no pleasure in your misery. That is your job. Moneta is waving to you!

Hmm a bit of a chuckle at the Old Guy is perfectly permissible lol.

Hey did you know that your upvote is worth more than mine! My voting power is on life support lol!

Life support? When mine gets that bad, I buy a bunch of tips and decided to boost its power!

Well yes that is a good idea, but you have the means whereas I am just a poor boy from a poor family...

Oh my God! I borrow money from you!

Amazing how many folks turn out to see Phil. Then again, if I lived there, I'd be front row if possible. Though he looks like he'd rather be in his burrow eating groundhog kibbles, than messing about in the cold. Can't say as I blame him. And thanks to Phil, I am now going out and get some more swimwear. Though it's going to have to warm up a LOT more for those shenanigans. What a classic, fun tradition. Though I've never fully understood if he SEES his shadow, it's sunny, so it will get warmer soon. At least in my world of weather.

Lewis Carol knew his stuff, and so do you when it comes to flower photog's. They're always so colorful and happy and such in your posts. Well, I'm off to a walk in OUR cold, which is not half as bad as yours. But I'm still going to whine a bit. Cheers and stay warm and hope Phil is right. TTFN.

I know!! That ole Lewis really knows his stuff, doesn't he??? And you can't even compare colds to one another! That would be blasphemous! You and your short-sleeved winter gear!

I am always amazed how many gather to see if the ole rodent will produce the right answer every year. He is hardly ever right, but, hey!! He 's nothing but a glorified rat, right? ;) I say that if you put a bathing suit on today, we want a selfie or it didn't happen.

Nobody understands how he sees his shadow, it is one of those blind faith things I think. Hope all is well in your part of the world. I'm a cruising now, my friend! :)

Interesting, really missing 10 years of data.
https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/customer-support/education-resources/groundhog-day
Wonder what happen. No time to investigate now.

Yes! I wondered myself, but I didn't look up why.

!tip

Thanks. I'm looking at data quite a bit lately and thought this data could probably be somewhere and could probably be someone using before. :)

Bye bye Winter ....

Oh, wouldn't that be nice if ole Phil could get it right??? I hope that warm weather is in our forecast, as spring is almost surely in the air (next week!)

Hi, Mike!! How is my favorite cat? :)

Happy Groundhog Day!

I did not understand how Punxsutawney Phil sees or does not see the shadow.
Now does it mean that it will be an early spring?

Did you watch the video? It is merely folklore, however... Happy Groundhog Day!

As the legend goes, if Phil sees his shadow, he considers it an "omen" of six more weeks of bad weather and heads back into his hole.

Yes! Early spring is in the cards, however, Phil is frequently wrong!!!

!tip

Then I like Phil! I like those who get bogged down in predictions (in fact, he does not make the predictions)

No!!! He doesn't! His shadow does!

Probably would be good to participate in Melinda's contest.

Too late! I already posted it days ago!

Then I wish you success. I'm looking to see your participation. On Saturday I was able to post in #caturday, I think for the first time. If you want to see it, you will find it here

I wish to participate. Right now I am on a cruise ship in the middle of nowhere. :) It was a happy moment to get any internet!

!tip

Oooooo how I hope he’s 100% correct this time.
Stay warm & Steem on :)

Me too!! I am sure that he is going to be spot on this time! We haven't had much cold this winter here in Washington, DC..

Well, except for this week. Next week, in the 60's!

Dear Denise
I have to confess I have no idea what Groundhog Day is so I shall just wish you a beautiful Saturday 🤗❤️🌈🦋🌴💛

Oh! It is merely folklore to predict if spring will be early or late!

Groundhog Day (Pennsylvania German: Grund'sau dåk, Grundsaudaag, Grundsow Dawg, Murmeltiertag; Nova Scotia: Daks Day[1]) is a popular tradition celebrated in Canada and the United States on February 2. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog (Marmota monax, also called "woodchuck"; Deitsch: Grundsau, Grunddax, Dax) emerging from its burrow on this day sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. While the tradition remains popular in modern times, studies have found no consistent correlation between a groundhog seeing its shadow or not and the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather.

The weather lore was brought from German-speaking areas where the badger (German: Dachs) is the forecasting animal. This appears to be an enhanced version of the lore that clear weather on the Christian Holy Day of Candlemas forebodes a prolonged winter.

The Groundhog Day ceremony held at Punxsutawney in western Pennsylvania, centering around a semi-mythical groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil, has become the most attended. Grundsow Lodges in Pennsylvania Dutch Country in the southeastern part of the state celebrate them as well. Other cities in the United States and Canada have also adopted the event.

The 1993 film Groundhog Day helped boost recognition of the custom, and the celebration has spread even further afield. In 2009, Quebec began to mark the day (Canadian French: Jour de la Marmotte) with its own groundhog. source

Happy Groundhog Day, Sally!!!
