Oh, for the love of soft serve ice cream! Over the years, it has found its niche, its place in our food pyramid, of sorts, if you will. I'll bet you didn't see that coming, did you? It was created with a combined effort of Dairy Queen (DQ for short) and Carvel, the experts in all things ice cream. They hit a home run with it. The rest is just history.
Did I mention that they come in a sugar, pictured to the left, or a waffle cone, my personal favorite. If you are really being watchful of your waistline, you may just want a dish. Your call!
Most of the soft serve shops have only chocolate and vanilla or a combination of both flavors called a swirl, this place called it a twist. You can roll it in sprinkles, jazz it up with nuts, or you can cover it with a magic shell, which is a cone dipped in pure chocolate and it hardens, making a hard covering over your soft serve. Oh, for the love of God and all things chocolate. It is pure and delicious. Nowadays, you can get cherry also. Praise God, did I say it was a near miracle of an experience?

If you are watching your calorie intake, soft serve is a better deal for you than regular ice cream. It has a light, fluffy texture which accounts for it's lower fat content. Win-win!

I have been to so many new places lately! I love to share and be shared with! I have always and forever liked to see different fruits and vegetables or products that are being sold. Okay, so now your're talking! As a child there was nothing better than going to DQ and having a softserve, DIPPED in chocolate with nuts..Oh my goodness! I always tried to eat the cone without breaking the chocolate, lol Such fond memories, no wonder it is famous all over the world! You made me smile all the way down memory lane :)

I have never been a fan of soft serve Icecream myself but regular Icecream is so tempting in Summer for me I must say particularly Mint Chocolate CHip here, but back in NZ the ice cream is so fresh and creamy, If you ever make it there the Ice Cream especially from one that make it homemade style is something you have to try,whenever we went home, within the first hour the two things we had to have were a Pie and an Icecream, MY favorite flavor being Hokey Pokey, now you may ask what the hell is Hokey Pokey, Have you ever had a Crunchie bar , the centre is honeycomb toffee sugar thingy and they put that in vanilla Ice Cream it may sound weird but it is so cool,
But i digress what a cool Ice cream shot that is so colorful and bright and makes for a great Market Friday post

There are several Homemade Ice Cream places right there in Connecticut. Some even fairly close to you. I know what you mean with the consistency, German Ice Cream was so different than ours, but, I liked it better. Oh, yes! Pie and ice cream. My mother's favorite thing to serve!
Hokey Pokey sounds divine especially with the honeycomb toffee sugar thingie... they do that sort of thing here, and I am sure they do it up there. Maybe? I like one with toffee crunch... OMG... I love it. But, I go to the farm which is pretty close and the creamery there makes the flavor of the season, whatever they are picking at the upick.

I did actually remember there are a couple of Ice Cream shops here in Milford Scoopy Doos and I forget the name of the other but it is right next door to where Lulu gets her hair done these days, which I do get an ice cream from occasionally and they are quite nice and I do enjoy them, but still not quite the same as what I grew up with, or perhaps since its been so long since I have had a NZ one maybe there better in my memory than they are in actuality LOL
and I forgot there is also one at Walnut Beach that is pretty good as well, and I have tried a couple of other Homemade Ice Cream places in CT, I had forgotten a couple till I looked up homemade Ice Cream in CT after reading your comment and realized I had been to a couple of them as well
Hmm this leads me to think of a future Market Friday Post :)
There are a couple of u-pick-it places up there that(just like down here) make their own and the flavor is dependent on the fruit being picked. I love when they get to picking strawberry and raspberry!
They are not in a shop, but, rather at the farms. I'll look them up today to see if you know of them. And I know that European ice cream is very different from ours and I love it, although, a lot of Germans wanted me to buy American ice cream in the commissary. They liked it better. Grass is greener and all that.
There used to be a place called Australian Homemade in the East Village and it was absolutely amazing ice cream and always and forever crowded. I loved it and it was authentic Aussie. And I can see why you loved it. I haven't been there in years and years, but, I thought about it last night!

I have been to a couple of the farms I cant remember the names at the moment one has huge fields of flowers and that why I went there and the ice cream was great there I think I had the raspberry and it was real nice with chunks of fresh raspberry

Oh you, evil woman, you. I am craving that which should not pass my lips. I remember the thrill of getting my first swirl soft serve as a kid. It might as well have been magic.
