The Sun and Mercury in Virgo have made some interesting connections with other elements in the sky the past few days.
Sun aspects affect your sense of personal direction, the rise and fall of your self-confidence, your ambitions and your willingness to create what you want through your own decisions and actions.
Aspects to the Sun as it travels through the sky, affect your sense of who you are and how you can use your own power to manage your life.
Mercury aspects affect the way you think, the attitudes you adopt, the ideas you entertain. They can show the changing state of your interests. They describe how easily you can put your thoughts across through speech and writing.
They show how willing you are to communicate ... and the kinds of response you're apt to provoke.
This is what it looks like to an Astrologer.
Right now Mercury is closely trailing the Sun. It will catch up and pass it on Thursday. In this position, the sequence of experience shows that you will change your essential goals, adjust your targets and align your energy on an unconscious but fundamental level ... and then in a few days you'll become aware of this shift.
Your thoughts will catch up to the changes in you. Your attitudes will adjust to this new sense of yourself. You'll think differently because you realize you have become different -- and as a result your life course has changed somehow.
Your interests and attitudes will also adapt to this new direction you've chosen. Things will synch up -- between you and your mind -- and life, of course, will go on.

For both the Sun and Mercury, we're looking at an opposition to Neptune, a sextile to Jupiter and a trine to Pluto. (That's quite a bit of action in a very short time.) Basically this shows a bump in the road with a lot of fringe benefits -- so let's take it one step at a time.
Sun / Neptune oppositions can show a crisis of confidence, the failure to see yourself clearly, or private doubts that maybe you're not up to the task set before you. Neptune energy can be very deceptive. Other people play games with your mind -- and don't give honest feedback. They see what they want to see in you (which is really what they see in themselves) -- and their reactions to you are confusing.
Have you had people "misunderstand" what you want ... or behave oddly in response to something you've done? Have they said things you couldn't count on? Have they "gone overboard" with a reaction to you that wasn't at all what you meant ... or expected?
Have there been "implications" or peculiar problems that made you question your abilities? Have they mirrored back to you a picture you don't recognize in the least? Have they said one thing to your face ... and something else behind your back? Has the politics of it all made you crazy?

Mercury / Neptune oppositions can be extremely creative -- but not very practical. This energy kicks your imagination into high gear -- but you have trouble translating all your great fantasies into something you can use in real life.
You're reluctant to share what you think -- convinced most people just won't understand. This energy pushes your intuition well into the territory of psychic ... and what you find there can be scary!
Have you found yourself lost in daydreams, wishing a lot of things in life were different -- only to come crashing back down to earth with the realization that they're not? Have you had trouble concentrating? Have you had trouble understanding your problems and challenges logically?
Do you have strong feelings that things are not what they seem? Are you afraid you're missing something important -- some information or situation you haven't taken properly into account that could come up on your blind side at a most inconvenient moment? (Is your own mind driving you crazy?)
This is how the raw oppositions operate, but as I said, right now there are two (really nice!!) silver linings to all this madness.

Sun / Jupiter sextiles show you new growth paths that your new personality can explore. They bring nice new advantages to counteract all this self-doubt. They help you keep your cool in the midst of trouble ... or upset.
They show you reasonable alternatives if you run into trouble. Most of all, they teach you important lessons about your own competence!! They bring lots of good luck and plenty of blessings and help -- the best of which may be the clear proof that you know what you're doing.

Mercury / Jupiter sextiles expand your ideas and build on your knowledge. They bring great teaching-and-learning situations. They help you express yourself in inspiring ways -- that can get you support from people you need ... or at least they open doors to contacts that can be useful.
They help you trust your own wisdom -- no matter what else is happening. They show you The Big Picture and how it all works. They help you keep an open mind so you don't miss developments and new options. They help you make the right choice at the right place at the right time. (They can sure help shore up your sagging self-confidence.)

Sun / Pluto trines mark a clear point of advancement in your life's continuing journey. They bring opportunities that make adjustments and course corrections obvious and easy. They show you the next steps in getting and keeping your life on track.
They show you how certain changes are actually an advantage -- no matter what they may have looked like at first. They bolster your courage -- and determination. They help you recuperate ... and keep up your strength. They help you tap hidden wells of incredible power.

Mercury / Pluto trines help you see fundamental cause-and-effect relationships. They show you action-and-consequence ... so clearly you can virtually predict the future. They clarify metaphysical realities. They help you adjust your thinking and attitudes to be more astute in overcoming problems.
They reveal hidden information you need to know -- often through coincidence and synchronicities that leave you breathless.
Most of all they show you how your mind is on your side. They help you ask the right questions ... and recognize the answers that come. Work with this one a while and you'll discover a boatload of respect for your own intellect. It's a wonderful gift. Don't miss it!!

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.
If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.
Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.
The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.
Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.
So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them.
