A Retrospective of Steem-Engine Key Points So Far

in #steem-engine5 years ago

We don't have as many Steemians active daily as over a year ago, STEEM price is struggling at a low dollar value and even lower bitcoin value, but one engine pumps steam like crazy: Steem-Engine.

Steem-Engine has brought a lot of enthusiasm back to Steem.

It's not the only one, there are other projects and games that keep people around and excited.

But today I did a little documentation on the major steps in the development of Steem-Engine, as they were reported by aggroed. I think this is useful, now or in the future, to look back at it and see how it grew up into what it is and what will become.

In fact, I have or had more types of tokens on Steem-Engine on my main account than I do or did in the entire cryptosphere up until now. That must say something about the excitement it started.

It's true, I'm not interested in most of these tokens, and many I have sold to buy what is in my area of interest.

Let's see how it all started.

I was surprised to see the first announcement for the opening of Steem-Engine goes all the way back to February 7th. I thought it must have been March or April. Here it is:
https://steempeak.com/steemengine/@aggroed/introducing-steem-engine-com

At that time it was really basic. You could create a basic token, but they couldn't be traded and there were no SCOTs obviously.

After about a month (March 6) the DEX came out, which allowed tokens to be traded. One major step forward, of course. And this is probably the point when enough people started to notice Steem-Engine and understand its true potential.

Looking back, it's interesting to re-discover how @holger80 became part of the team: through a dev contest. He developed and continues to improve ScotBot:

Contest was posted on March 12th, Holger's contribution came three days later (see first comment).

We're still in March in our retrospect (March 23rd), when Steem-Engine was successfully tested to support transactions from LTC to and from LTCP:

Not long after, on April 4th, support for BTC/LTC/BCH/DOGE was added to the live site:

@cleanplanet was the first airdrop on Steem-Engine, aggroed told us on April 20th:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/steem-engine-completes-the-first-airdrop-with-cleanplanet

Two days later, Aggroed announced Steem-Engine was offering legal services:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/breaking-news-steem-engine-now-offering-legal-services

First announcement about SCOT tests and what they are came on April 27:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scot-testing-underway-are-you-ready-for-your-own-token-that-can-distribute-like-steem

On May 2-3, a series of 3 posts came, explaining SCOT and Scotbot:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scot-and-scotbot-going-live-part-1-se-node-hardfork
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scot-and-scotbot-part-ii-considerations-when-creating-a-community-token-faucets-and-sinks
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scot-and-scotbot-part-iii-scotbot-settings

A few days later, on May 8th, staking was enabled on Steem-Engine. Announcement came in two short posts:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/steem-engine-hardfork-successful-staking-enabled-on-the-backend
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scotbot-staking-ui-enabled-one-more-step-to-go-before-scotbot-is-live-and-public
Next day came the announcement about the launch of Scotbot:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/scotbot-launch-time-to-make-your-own-custom-token-powered-by-proof-of-brain-on-steem

Did you think, like me, that Palnet was the first custom interface for SCOT? Wrong! It was weedcash. Announcement by aggroed on May 12:
https://steempeak.com/scotbot/@aggroed/a-new-era-for-steem-scotbot-powered-custom-website-up-and-running-welcome-https-www-weedcash-network
Next day, the announcement for Nitrous came, the software that makes it easy to create Steemit.com clones:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/introducing-nitrous-to-supercharge-your-steem-engine-community
And more posts about Nitrous were published the following days:

https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/nitrous-freedom-of-choice

On May 31st, last testing phase for token delegation was announced:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/notice-another-hardfork-coming-for-steem-engine-com-token-delegation

Two days later, comes the announcement about unlocking of mining via the so called "Delegated Proof of Stake Mining", possibly first introduced on Steem-Engine:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/notice-steem-engine-leveling-up-new-abilities-unlocked-staking-and-mining
And the first miners introduced the same day for ENG:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/steem-engine-mining-enabled-for-eng-tokens

On June 3rd, aggroed mentioned for the first time the partnership with D-Tube to create ScotTube:
https://steempeak.com/scottube/@aggroed/steem-engine-and-d-tube-are-partnering-up
ScotTube was launched after one month on July 3rd:
https://steempeak.com/dtube/@aggroed/scottube-it-s-alive

I didn't find an 'official' announcement for that, including by minnowsupport, but seems Palnet was launched on June 5th?
https://steempeak.com/palnet/@aggroed/my-first-post-on-https-www-palnet-io

Same day ScotBB was introduced, a partership between Steem-Engine and TokenBB:
https://steempeak.com/scotbb/@aggroed/introducing-scotbb-a-partnership-between-steem-engine-and-tokenbb

Splintertalk was launched a few days later on June 9th. I will not keep track of the other launches in this post.
https://steempeak.com/spt/@aggroed/soft-launch-of-splintertalk-io

On June 11th, Scot.Ninja was brought to the world, a partnership between Steem-Engine and Steem.Ninja, to improve onboarding:
https://steempeak.com/scotninja/@aggroed/introducing-scot-ninja-steem-engine-and-steem-ninja-from-oracle-d-team-up-to-empower-onboarding

Delegation was introduced with the June 14th hardfork:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/hard-fork-announcement-for-steem-engine-delegation-and-decimal-precision-going-live-on-tuesday-at-8pm

BTS was listed on Steem-Engine and Bitshares tokens can also be listed, we found out these days:
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/bitshares-bts-now-on-steem-engine-com-tokens-soon
https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@aggroed/bitshares-tokens-can-now-be-listed-on-steem-engine-com

And this is on the roadmap, due for the end of August! Non-fungible tokens, something that can uniquely identify objects or elements of the same class. Really awesome stuff!

I can't believe how long this retrospective turned out to be. Anyone still saying nothing happens on the Steem blockchain?
