Why Steem-related content is an important part of the content on Steem?

I've read one of the blaming points people have regarding Steem is that we don't focus our content towards the larger communities out there on the internet, but rather talk to each other here on Steem.

To some extent this is a valid point. Meaning you rarely see users on Facebook talking about... Facebook. And you can replace the infamous social media platform with pretty much any other centralized one.

And to the extent this is a valid point, we do need to write more content that is less Steem targeted. Make it less about the Steem blockchain, and more about the communities we have here and the content we create.

On the other hand, Steem is a blockchain fostering various decentralized platforms and communities, and as such, there isn't a central point from where the rules are created, imposed and changed at will, or the control over the content and types of applications that run on the public nodes that keep the blockchain alive is exerted.

This means that every Steemian has a say in the direction the blockchain goes. Because everyone is a stakeholder at least, most likely involved in one or more communities, maybe a developer and why not a witness.

In this respect, Steem couldn't be further from Facebook or any other centralized platform. And since Steem has a social media component, how else would its stakeholders express themselves, their wishes, ideas, opinions and debates? And since everything is public (not like a closed shareholders meeting), everyone in the world with access to the internet and who has heard of Steem can see these positions. And sometimes they are contrary, with or without arguments.

Would you rather have these points of view behind closed doors, as a shareholder of Steem? I think public is good. Even though sometimes it creates the impression of internal conflicts. Even though through these writings sometimes we point out ourselves what the flaws of Steem currently are. What can be more open?

Even though a large portion of the content on Steem seems to be written for the eyes of Steemians alone. But how else can you harmonize (to some degree, there will always be parties who don't agree) the positions in a decentralized system? Leave it only to the witnesses? And how do we know what the witnesses do, think, stand for etc.?

These are my thoughts for those who think we write too much content for Steemians eyes only. In abstract,

  • we do need to create more content not targeted to Steem users specifically
  • Steem-related content is important in a decentralized system, unlike on Facebook or other centralized social media platforms
