Club100 || No Backpack Day at JSMU...

in #club1002 years ago

Medical school is hectic. There's no doubt in that. I remember when I was a kid and my brothers used to complain about the mental pressure they had to face in Med school on daily basis, I used to tell them to stop overreacting. Everywhere in the world, it's the same. There's nothing easy over here.

But now, when I'm experiencing the life at Medical School first hand, I understand it's no less than a living hell. The subjects, the assignments, internals, externals, thesis, Research, projects, OPDs, contagious diseases, being covered up in PPEs for 6-8 hours in this scorching heat and many other things.

I'm not denying that people in other fields have it easy. Ofcourse, success demands your blood and sweat. For example if I look at my friends who're in law school, they don't have it easy over there as well. It's like, everyone thinks they are the most affected.

The purpose of mentioning all of this was to let you all know my routine in a medical school and how stressed we all are. But sometimes, we have to take out time for ourselves, to stay sane, To stay intact, to not go crazy. For that, I organized a No backpack day at my University. It's a day where all the students brought anything, but a bag. Of course the University administration didn't like it a bit but we were all up for it. Let's give you all an insight of the:

NO BACKPACK DAY

Everything was decided beforehand. I informed all my batchmates through WhatsApp that I'll be organizing a No backpack day in University. Some of them agreed to be a part of it, while some were scared of the action that the management. The word was already out. The council started posting on their official page that any Student found being a part of it will be penalized. This caused slight fear and confusion amongst the students as no one wanted to be on the bad side of the management. But still, I was adamant on proceeding with this plan. I tried to explain it to my batchmates, that we all deserve a break and what better than to have a day like this at university where we'll not be stressed out atleast for a day?

I texted in my WhatsApp batch group as well and some of batchmates stood up with me and agreed on celebrating it.

Anyway it was decided, and I had a very anxious sleep that night, thinking if I'd be the only one carrying a trash can instead of a bag? I wasn't sure whether other students would be bringing anything or would they be ditching me in front of the whole crowd. I reached university earlier than usual. At that time only a couple of students had arrived before me and all of them had bags on their backs. This worried me a little, as I had a trash bag in my hands.

One of my friends had arrived and even he didn't have anything, but a backpack. This made me sad, I won't deny. I was wondering if one of my closet friend didn't listen to me, would the others? Anyway, there wasn't much that I could have done at that time. I waited for the students to come in.

I was so surprised to see, as the students started pouring into the University premises, 70% of them had various items in their hands. I felt so confident that a majority of them had listened to me. I had an immediate morale and confident boost and my heart felt at peace. One thing I was sure of that I won't be the only one looking like an idiot with a trashbag in his hands. Seeing such major support, such large influx of students with different things, I was ready to face the University's administration if things went south.

As I was pondering that, I saw a group of my friends galloping towards with me with a bright smile of their faces. I walked towards them, greeted them and told them what a relief it is for me to see that they listened to me out of so many people.

All of us went to the lecture hall together. The first lecture that we have is at 8:30 in the morning. Here comes the best part. Our first lecture was being conducted by the Head of the Department. Now, my friends were concerned as to how to enter the lecture hall with a hot pot, trash bag, basket and various other things. As I mentioned it above, I was ready to take on anything for these people, I entered the Lecture hall first, with my trashbag rasied high proudly. The professor looked at me. It was a tense moment, I won't deny. We had an eye contact for a split second then he burst out laughing. He indicated me to the seats and I laughed as well. As this happened, I called my other friends inside the lecture hall. As they entered, the professor passed them a smile.

Once the Lecture was over, we gathered infront of the stage in the lecture hall, and posed for a group photo. These pictures are very important for me as years later when I'll scan through my memories, I'll be reminded of the amazing time that we all had.

Yes, these are the people who'll be checking your teeth and maintaining your oral health. Are you scared? Hahaha, don't worry, we're like you as well, we deserve a bit of fun as well.

Once we got free from our photographs, we all headed outside in a pack to see if anyone else was celebrating as we were. We reached the university ground and to our surprise, over a hundred people were there with the craziest things you could think of, in their hands. I'll mention some of the items that students had brought instead of a bag:

  • Trash can

  • Trash bag

  • Pram

  • Toaster

  • Bird Cage

  • Hanger

  • Hot pot
  • Mats
  • Oxygen Cylinder

And much much more. It surprised me to see the support my announcement, my initiative got from the rest of the university. It was heart-warming and it gave me such confidence. As soon as I reached the ground, where all of the students were gathered, a majority of them greeted me and I blended with them. None of them had a backpack on them. I greeted lots of seniors and juniors there who were already waiting for me there. We clicked a couple of pictures there as well.

We were all having the time of lives. Taking pictures, running around, seeing each others creative stuff and much more. All of this was turned into dust by the management as they let the guards on us. The guards came down on us as hurricane and started vandalizing us. They started snatching our stuff, breaking whatever they could, threatening students. One of them also came to me, I stood my ground and sent him back. I mean, we're the students there. They should respect us as we respect them. We're not their frigging slaves.

Anyway, it was one of the best days of my life. Even though we left the ground due to misbehaviour of the guards, we still had our creative items on us. We were still roaming inside the university with whatever we had in our hands. It was time for my clinicals, so I had to ditch my junior friends. I told them I'd meet them once I get free from the clinic. It'd looked very awkward if I'd faced patients with a trash bag in my hands 😂😂

It was a day to remember honestly. With such hectic schedule all the time, we all deserved something like this. Many people thanked me for organizing an event like this. This refreshed all of them. I even compiled a video from this day and want you all to see it.

Whatever you do just don’t give up!
The end will be rewarding, that I can assure you

I am this '🤏' close of getting my appointment done with a psychiatrist due to Medical school. Haha Just kidding, I understand the hardships which come along with the great status of a doctor .

My son studied medicine and now works in Ireland.

I love Ireland. Infact, I have loved Ireland since I was a child. You know when I was a kid, I used to search up jobs for Doctors in Ireland for my dad. He's a doctor as well. Maybe I can get in touch with your son and he could guide me a bit about working as a Doctor in Ireland 😃

Thank you for your nice words.

For sure! I can put you in contact with my son😊
I know he will gladly help where he can.
He is working in a hospital in Limerick

Congratulations 🥳🥳!
