My new kid/ challenge

I stopped all the extra classes I have been conducting except for one when I started my degree. Main reason for this was the lack of time and the other reason is that you should have flexible parents specially when you are working + studying. So o have been rejecting many requests for extra classes since I didn't want to complica my life.

However, I recently got a request that I couldn't reject. It came from a family friend of one of our fav previous students, so it didn't feel right to reject it. I usually teach English Literature to international school students and the youngests I have worked with are from grade 3. This girl was from grade 2 and I was expected to enhance her English knowledge first before move on to English lit bcz English lit only comes as a subject in grade 3. It seemed to be bit tricky bcz she was younger but I felt it as a new challenge to my usual routine and I love challenges. So I took her as my new student.

But it was a challenge indeed. I had to think of many things that I never thought before. Will she cry when her parents leave? Will she be tall enough for tha table? Will my study room distract her ncz it has so many dolls? Will I need to give away my fancy pencils if she asks them from me? So many questions that I had no clue of.

I selected a place for the class where I thought she would be distracted and luckily she was such a sweetheart. She was smiling from ear to ear instead of crying. But even after the first day I was wondering if she liked the class or not bcz I couldn't imagine my grade 2 self to attend extra classes. Her mother's comments on the following week made all my doubts vanish into the thin air. My kiddo had done the homework as soon as she went home that day and she was ready to come for the class the following day thinking that the class is happening daily 😅

I was happy to see that she is both working for the class and enjoying it as well. But I still feel so responsible about this class because I have to rework lots of teaching methods to find perfect ways for her. Even though she is my student, she makes me a student also because I learn from my new kid. And I'm so excited to work together with her!
