Importance Of Mental Health

Mental health is a combination of our physiological, emotional and social well being. It involves our state of mind based on situations, experiences, and circumstances. It can also determine how we react, think and process events. Right from childhood to adulthood, mental health is vital.
In some part of the world, physical health takes priority over mental health, but the truth is they are both equally important. This is because when a person struggles with mental health, it becomes difficult for he/she to take care of their physical health.

Some conditions which affect mental health include:

• Anxiety
• Depression
• Memory Loss
• Stress
• Bipolar Disorder
• Alzheimer's Disease

Good mental health is essential for some reasons.

For Self Care:

One importance of mental health is that it enables a person to take care of themselves both physically and emotionally. The brain is the part of the body which regulates functionality, and when it does not function well, a person finds it hard to care for themselves. Simple activities such as eating, brushing and exercising become difficult for a person with mental problems.

To Handle Stress:

Stress happens to everyone at a point in their life, and good mental health is essential for such situations to be dealt with appropriately when it occurs. A person with bipolar disorder might lose his/her calm when faced with a stressful situation, so also will a person with anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. So good mental health is vital to handle stressful situations.

In Socializing:

Socializing is a standard part of a person's day to day activities. While it's normal that you can remain indoors for a few days without stepping out and meeting people, eventually you have to go out. You have to go to work, attend to clients, buy groceries, mow your lawn and so on. To successfully socialize, mental health is essential.
Prevent Suicidal Tendencies: One of the leading causes of suicide is poor mental health. Often this is caused by depression. Depression involves a lack of excitement or interest in anything and a feeling of liability. Good mental health does well to reduce suicidal tendencies.

Both mental and physical health is essential to have a good life. When taking care of your physical health, it is of utmost importance that you also take care of your mental health. Remember, health is wealth!
