Spring Saturday 🌄 The Ochberg's Observatory 🔭

in #photography5 years ago

This weekend had warm spring weather, so I woke up early and took my girlfriend to a short ride on the motorcycle to see some nature and landscape.

The original idea was to go to Cyclamen Hill to photograph the cyclamen bloom, but the place was crowded with people and vehicles so we decided to give up and simply continue to ride and enjoy the view.

During the ride, the scenery was spectacular, carpets of green grass appeared from the sides of the road to the horizon dotted with trees and the occasional tractor passing through the field.

We decided to stop for a little rest to drink an energy drink and enjoy the scenery and the pleasant weather in a place called "Isaac Ochberg observatory".

I had no idea who that man was so I checked online and apparently he was an awesome dude.

Here I pulled some cool wiki info about him for Y'all 😋

Issac Ochberg (1878-1937) was born in Uman, Ukraine.
At the age of 17, he emigrated to South Africa where he became rich in real estate and other business, and in 1926 he visited Israel, in 1929 he was a delegate to the Zionist Congress in Zurich, contributing to Jewish organizations donating 250.000£ To the Jewish National Fund.
The lands of the kibbutzim Dalia and Gilad were purchased with this money.

In 1921, he traveled to Eastern Europe and brought to South Africa 187 orphaned Jewish children, refugees, and victims of antisemitic violence that afflicted the Jewish communities after World War I.
There, they were cared for and educated in two orphanages he founded in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The children used to call him "Daddy Ochberg".

This observatory was inaugurated on July 20, 2011, in the presence of a representative of the South African embassy and a representative of the "Ochberg Children".
On the rocks and stones, 187 metal plates bearing the names of the children whom Ochberg had saved were distributed.
The story of Ochberg's life and the rescue of the children is commemorated on two metal plates, in Hebrew and English.

Enjoy!

This is a very idyllic landscape. I can imagine spending there hours and hours walking around.. It's so soothing for my soul to see such summer pictures as we are in the middle of winter here so green and blue are no where to be seen. Everything is grey and dark..

Thank you for sharing and brightening my day a bit!

You're welcome dear ☺️ thank you for your kind words 😊
