SteemBay • Six Gold-on-Silver Mini Coins... smallest coins ever made?

in #steembay6 years ago (edited)

The Franklin Mint produced more medals at more sizes that we’ll ever know.

Sometime during either the 70s or early 80s, they produced these very small proof pieces.. apparently a set of type coins and at least some commemoratives. I’ve had stash of some for a while.. and now I’d like to offer them up for anyone who might like ’em!

I attached a macro lens to my iphone and began a close-up study. They range in size from 6 to 8mm in diameter. Each coin is Sterling silver layered with 24k gold. The detail is remarkable no matter how one looks at it. Below is about 1000% magnification.

So all ya get are these itty-bitty golden disks in a plastic bag which include miniature clones of:

1849 $1 gold piece
1854 $1 gold piece
1854 $3 gold piece
1796 $2.5 gold piece
1795 $10 gold piece
1850 $20 gold piece

You can get an idea of their actual size with the image below:

I think that it goes without saying that these are really tricky to.. well ya don't really “handle” them per se.

you have to scoop ’em with a small piece of acetate.. something thin but firm. Ya don't really want to pick these up with ur fingers unless you really need to.. they’re just so small that the physics at that scale are something we’re not so used to.

Yeow those are sure tiny and pretty! ☀

bid 2.0

@shasta, i also posted a set of silver mini-coins and some copper mini-coins..

Oh? Wow those are real nice also :-)

@shasta i just realized that the steembay bot hadn't recognized your bid of 2.0 here... not sure why. If you'd still like the mini-coins you can have them for 1SBD cuz that was the opening bid and no one tried to outbid you. Just let me know. I've had these for years and they need a new home!

Hmmm, wonder if I should of typed just the bid response
and not with the comment would of made it respond?
This was the first time ever to bid on something! lol

I'd sure love to give them a new home @orionsbeltbuckle! :-)

That sweet knife was really awesome you had up
awhile back! If you think of auctioning some of your
great artwork or copies of, I would bet those would
go like hot cakes!❣

if I should of typed just the bid response

not sure... i'll try to figure that out before the next auction.

I'd sure love to give them a new home

you can have em then.. just encrypt-message me ur mailing address with an SBD and I'll toss em in the mail to ya.

That sweet knife...

oh yeah... that was a cool hand-made piece!

If you think of auctioning some of your great artwork or copies of..

thanks for encouraging me to do that.. I've been draggin' my feet... 😺

Do you use the regular steemit chat?
Not sure how to encrypt-message lol
... _ ... or was that ... lol

yes I'm on the discord channel SteemBay, Steemusa, Whaleshares..

to encrypt using steemit memo, just type a "#" before your message.... so like this "# test message".. the memo wound be visible to others.

All I got is regular steem chat or can I email it to ya?

k... haven't been on steemchat in a bit.. looks a little different.. trying to find ya

wow... Safari wasn't working with steemchat... now I got it going in Chrome

The #steembay Auction has finished without a bid...
