Wayback Machine. Past thoughts. If you don't want to actually READ stuff, this is not the post for YOU.

My wandering thoughts.. from way back....

Star-Divider.png

I've gathered up some old writings and pictures that I just discovered (last night.. couldn't sleep) from the Wayback Machine. Hopefully, cheetahbot won't slam me for copying down my own words. Anyway.. here goes. I had written a long introduction to all this stuff but then realized it sounded dumb. So.. deleted....

Short and sweet intro now.. I'm already finished. So fast.

So, hey. Here's some stuff I wrote

If you need proof that this is my stuff, you can see my vintage blog over at https://web.archive.org/web/20031029141034/http://paintingangels.blogdrive.com/archive/cm-10_cy-2003_m-10_d-20_y-2003_o-10.html.

So let's just get right into it. I've always been a writer... and when the internet popped up into my life, I became pretty much instantaneously a BLOGGER, too.

Just look at me rambling on and on. It's always been that way. Always.

Some of the pages are archived and available and some are just gone forever. But the ones that are available you can see by clicking "Next Page" or "Last Page" at the bottom of the the blog. I'll share some more of these at the end of the post.

rhymes

they say a song should rhyme
they say it all the time
it irritates me badly
la la la la la madly

they say a bird should fly
but what about the penguins?

Notebook

I used to write little journal entries on my website and called it my Notebook. My website has since been deleted, but thanks to the wayback machine, I found these. They are going in order from newest to oldest. Here's a little screenshot just so you can see what it originally looked like.

November 27, 2002 - Tuesday

Everyone is in a giving mood lately, for the holidays. It's nice, but it would be nicer if it didn't take a holiday to make it happen.

November 8 2002 - Friday

It is cold outside, but warmer than it has been. I've been writing a lot lately, poems mostly though. I discovered today that I am skilled enough to walk on my treadmill and play my guitar at the same time. Imagine that. An acoustic treadmill.

August 23, 2002 - Friday

I have this new journal at 1sound.com. I might do most of my journal entries there from now on. Stop by and say hello in my chatterbox, if you want to!

August 15, 2002 - Thursday

Another day gone by. It is rainy, and hot. I sang at the Bluebird Cafe Monday night and it felt so good. I wish I could sing for a crowd every single night of the week. I would never ever tire of it. Never.

August 2, 2002 - Friday

It's hot today, and I'm homesick, missing my family back in Byrdstown. I'm happy to have my sister living in the same town with me. We went running together this morning, a little butterfly actually found itself chasing us, probably because our shirts both had red colors in them. We called it the attack butterfly.

July 24, 2002 - Wednesday

I don't understand it when musicians say they can't listen to their own songs, or watch themselvess on TV. I write my music for myself as much as for anyone else. Sometimes I flip through the radio and it's all shameful, the things that fall out into the air, so I write something I actually would like to listen to if I were searching the radio for something pleasurable. And if I finally landed a spot on TV I would watch it and say "Hey that's me on TV! FINALLY!"

July 18, 2002 - Thursday

When I'm bored I listen to music on the internet, just going around from site to site on mp3.com and javamusic.com trying to see what I can dig up. I love finding new music. It's like walking into a candy store and finding a new kind of chocolate that you've never tasted before and many other people haven't yet discovered either..

Last night I had a dream that I was in the ocean, and it was a dark night, with no moon at all nor stars. A fish was talking to me about the future and I was floating on a surfboard and I knew how to surf.

There's this kid who sings around Nashville at all the open mics. He screams into the mic and it makes me want to tell him to calm down. If he gets a record deal before I do it will be the end of the world.

Does anyone hear me? Does anyone hear you? I will listen to you.

I like it when people e-mail me just to talk about random things.
It doesn't happen often enough.

July 15, 2002 - Monday

I might be moving to the ocean in NC. I hope there are whales there sometimes. I will miss my family so much if I move, but my mother says what is mean to be will happen. So I guess we'll see what happens.

I've been listening to the Counting Crows this morning. "Perfect Blue Buildings" carries me so far away. I wrote a new song just now. Maybe I will record it later. Now I'm listening to Mazzy Star's "Fade into You", which is probably my favorite song in all of the world.

Also there's this young man you should know. His name is Mick OD. He is my friend, and is a star, and is wise beyond his years. Soon the rest of the world will know it too.

July 11,2002 - Thursday

Does anyone even read this thing or is it just here for me? I imagine I'm boring people to tears.

July 7, .2002 - Sunday

I've been writing alot lately.I wrote a new song about the Trail of Tears yesterday, I think I like it quite a bit. Very fun to sing. The first verse and chorus, if I don't change it while recording (which often happens) goes something like this:

(Capo on 2nd; C, Am, F, G, Am)
"Dark wind blowing on me tonight; my feet are broken and my baby just died. Jackson said we're not civilized; so we're moving west, he said that's best for a savage town, for a savage town...not so many moons ago, I watched the red bird fly, floating circles high above into a deep blue sky... above a free land, above a free land.."

In other news, I discovered that a sunflower can survive up to 5 days in the hot sun in only a small container of water.

4/04/02 - Wednesday

There's this feeling I get sometimes, like I'm just not doing enough for the world at any given point in time. I hate this war on terrorism. It makes me sick inside. The media isn't helping. I've seen some news reports lately that would have gathered an R-rating had they been scenes from a movie, yet were perfectly acceptable for prime time news. Granted, we need to know what's going on, but sometimes too much is too much for young hearts to handle. On the other hand, I guess we should be seeing it, but I just don't think it should be on the evening news when many children are sitting in front of those TV's as well. Enough is enough already. When will it end? Will we ever be safe again? Were we ever really?

3/26/02 - Tuesday

I played the Bluebird Cafe for the first time last night. (It was what all that I expected)

3/17/02 - St. Patrick's Day Sunday

Well I'm awake entirely too early with no real reason to be, other than I just couldn't sleep any longer. I'm too lazy to do my yoga workout this morning. I'll do it later. Going to see Kim's Fable tonight at The Boro, here in town. Maybe stop over at Cat's Music first for the Grand opening where they're doing an acoustic set.

Have you heard Kim's Fable yet? Maybe you should.

I wrote a blues song the other night, I kind of impressed myself actually. Anyway now I can't remember much of any of it.

Figures doesn't it?.....

Heading out to the Bluebird Cafe, for open mic night tomorrow, if time permits.

I found this really neat guestmap that still functions! I'd forgotten all about it. I used it on my website as an option beside the guestbook. Guestbooks used to be commonplace, before walls were a thing.

Anyway, with the guestmap, guests to my site would mark themselves on the map using an animal of their choice, placing a message to me with their pin. You can look here and mouse over the pins to see the messages people wrote to me, if you are incredibly bored or just out of your head temporarily for some reason and have found yourself curious. Here's the url, and also just a screenshot in case you just want the condensed version. This snapshot is from December 30, 2003.

MySpace

Then there was myspace.. I did so much writing in that blog and so much networking with other musicians. I got a comment on my wall from GILLIAN WELCH once.. I wish I could find that archived somehow. She showed up in my friends, though.. check it out... This actually was my account that I had after I deleted my first one. Had a bad day.. deleted my myspace. Typical Serena. Sorry I refer to myself in third person so much. I just like saying my own name I guess.

Sadly, I can't find any of the blog entries I wrote from myspace, just some titles. One of which says, "Deleted." This is why I don't like the blockchain.. you can't really delete. I mean, obviously you can't ever entirely delete anything from anywhere.. but things do seem to be more permanent here.

I will leave you with some more screenshots from my journals. Every picture I have shared here is a quote that I, myself, have authored.

It's funny I was just thinking about the "way back machine" and wondered if it was still around, nice to see it is. Some old guest books would be nice to look over.

wait... where are MY BUNNY SLIPPERS????

I killed my first internet me.

You have such a wonderful mind. I love the way you think, how the gears turn at the thought of anything. You are a clever being and put meaning to many things that maybe wouldn't have any. Bless you my friend. You are a gift to this world! Xx
