Hi there!

The last time I marked your pages it was 101 days to Christmas, 31 days until the Cricket World Cup, and 15 days until the visit of my daughter and her kids.

Guess what? It is now…

➜ 77 days until it is Christmas!

➜ 7 days until the T20 Cricket World Cup!

➜ 78 more days and my daughter and my grandchildren are coming for the next visit!

Yip! My daughter and her two kids were here for the week. Now you know why I was so quiet.

It is school holiday and therefore no driving to and fro from school, no extracurricular activities, no school tasks for me, and I took some time off from Steemit. Read again… “Some time”.
I couldn’t help to peep now and again.

What an awesome few days we had! It was just proven again that family is precious, our greatest blessing.

Today, I share the last day of my family’s visit with you.

RISE AND SHINE

It was with a cup of tea in my hand that I read the posts about the flooding in Indonesia. I was overwhelmed with sadness as earlier this year floods and mudslides claimed the lives of more than 400 people in South Africa.

Then there were the floods in Pakistan, the States, and now in Niger and Indonesia. It was also on the news that parts of Australia are preparing for heavy rains and possible flooding.

Climate change! How on earth do we adapt to climate change? I was shocked to discover that there is a Climate Change and Global Warming Migration Manual. I am sure that these “safer” places are no longer available to the normal man on the street. That the ultra-rich and investment banks have made sure of.

My dear diary, this is how my day started, discussing with my grandchildren what they can do to help Mother Earth and climate change.

EARLY MORNING

As it was an overcast day I decided to spoil the family with a breakfast of bacon, fried eggs, and cheese grillers. Of course, I was the kid’s favorite “ouma”. Ouma is the Afrikaans word for granny.

After breakfast, it was time to rush them, time to get finished. With a forecast of no sun, it was maybe not the ideal day for the beach but the perfect day to start mom’s taxi for sightseeing.

Just before we left the house there was an announcement on the news that “loadshedding”, or power cuts as most of you know it will come to an end at 05:00 am tomorrow. This after 52 days. Whoop whoop!!

MOM’S TAXI IS ON THE MOVE

Ballito, our town, is situated +/- 50 km from Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. For those who don’t know Durban is one of the big cities of South Africa, situated on the Eastern coast of Africa. It hosts one of the busiest harbors of the Southern Hemisphere.
Location Durban

Visiting Durban was so much fun. I could show the kids where we spend our holidays as children, the beaches we played on, the harbor we visited watching the big whales swimming next to the giant ships, and the rickshaws we rode on.

The Golden Mile, the beachfront of Durban, is well known for its rickshaws. For over 120 years the men wearing traditional clothing and decorated headgear pulls his guests on a two-wheeler cart. He will jump in the air and tip the cart now and again making it a scary yet enjoyable adventure.

After a soft serve ice-cream on the beach, it was time for mom’s taxi to hit the road back to Ballito.

The trip back home was lonely as the kids and… my daughter, fell asleep as soon as the wheels of the car were humming.

FROM DUSK TO DAWN

Supper time!

It was chilly outside as it was raining throughout the day in Ballito. This, however could not stop us from having pizza on the beach.

Contrary to the excitement of the morning we sat cuddled up eating our pizzas in silence. The short holiday has come to an end. In the morning the family will be taking the airplane back to Johannesburg.

They have not left yet and already I am missing them.

As the last hours of the day arrived we sat in darkness. For the last time, we are experiencing loadshedding. Hopefully this time it will stay away for a while.

That my diary, was my day of heart sore and excitement in one day.

See you soon!

I noticed you've not been giving us updates of your daily activities though you've been acting well as Moderator , now I understand why.
It's great that you've become the best ouma and why would you be, with all the delicious things you feed your grand kids.
Thanks for sharing and hope to see you again.

And now, I'm appetized for a pizza on the beach...
Let me think: Pizza buying will be no problem, but what about the beach?
A trip to the Baltic Sea (the nearest part of the sea to me) seems to much just for eating my pizza which would by then be cold...
So I now am looking for a lake's beach - there is a Greenwich Promenade not too far away!
On the other hand I could replace "beach" by "beech". Pizza on the beech? Okay, pizza under the beech....
As for the pizza I could also imagine a quiche or a tarte.
First of all I'll have to leave the house. Let me think... I could have a pizza brought, and then I could change from beech to birch. So I am not forced to leave the house, since a litte birch is on the balcony.
While re-thinking the pizza on the beach to be "resteemed" as pizza or quiche under the little birch, I could additionally change a bit to toast.
Toast under the birch! My solution is found, and I can stll rest in my dressing gown.
Yeah! You made my day!

Just before we left the house there was an announcement on the news that “loadshedding”, or power cuts as most of you know it will come to an end at 05:00 am tomorrow.

I heard about that flood in Indonesia and the displaced inhabitants. It was so disheartening. I pray for God's Kingdom to come and hush this natural disaster and the likes.

You have really enjoyed your family and the kids especially. They look great! You did well taking them round for sight seeing. The pizza must have made their(kids) day. Kudos to you, Ouma. Am glad to learn that Ouma is what granny is called in South Africa. Your diary is well detailed as always

Last night I watch a broadcast on the heavy rains and landslides in Venezuela.
You are right my friend... this must come to an end.

Thank you, we had an awesome time! My heart was broken when I took them to the airport on Saturday. BUT, at least we got something to look forward to, December holiday! Whoop whoop!

Thank you for the visit and kind words! 🎕
