Steemit Inc has launched the Steemit Development Incentive Program.
The program has a budget of $500,000 worth of STEEM tokens to support community-led development projects on steemit.com.

Pennsif the Witness
After almost 2000 days on Steem I decided it was time to take my contribution to the platform to the next level.
I have therefore set up as a Steem witness... @pennsif.witness

1. Steemit Development Incentive Program
Steemit Inc has announced the full details of the new Development Incentive Program.
$500,000 worth of STEEM tokens per year is being made available to support community-led development projects on steemit.com.
The program is being overseen by a team of five top witnesses - @future.witness (@hightouch), @steemchiller, @justyy, @smt-wherein (@iguazi123) and @dev.supporters (@donekim, @glory7 & @wonsama).
These five Community Developer Representatives will receive 10% of the budget between them for running the program.
The community is invited to submit their ideas and suggestions for improvements as comments, or full posts, by 15 October...
2. Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 5
There is still time for communities to apply for Season 5 of the Engagement Challenge.
The closing date for applications is 11:59 pm UTC, on Sunday 2 October...
Twelve applications have been submitted so far...
3. Steem Marketing Plan #2
Country Rep @heriadi has joined with @pollito22 and @o1eh to add an Indonesian dimension to their new social marketing group for Steem.
The group is now setting up Steem accounts in Spanish, English and Indonesian on Facebook and Instagram...
This is developing into a very promising project. I wonder if representatives from other main language groups represented on Steem (Bangla, Hindi, Korean, Italian, Chinese etc) will join this group...?
This is a project I would be very happy to support as a witness (@pennsif.witness). Although it is only early days in my witness life, and I am only at #80, I will look for ways that I can best help and contribute.
4. AVLE Updates
Witness developer @etainclub continues to post regular updates about his AVLE app.
He has now fixed a posting template bug and made adjustments to the post reward amount display...

5. Burning STEEM
@remlaps continues to track the impact of Steemit's burnsteem25 campaign encouraging people to set a 25% beneficiary to @null to reduce the amount of STEEM, which potentially will increase its value.
The total burnt since June has now exceeded 113K SP. A new daily record of 766 SP burnt was achieved on 28 September.
September set a new monthly record since @remlaps starting tracking, with 17724 STEEM burnt, up from the previous monthly record in August of 16469 STEEM...
6. WOX-HELPFUND Donation
WOX-HELPFUND, from the World of Xpilar, has donated 400 STEEM to community member @eglis to assist with medical expenses during her pregnancy...
Recently established witness @stmpak.wit has given their first charitable donation - more than 50 STEEM's worth of groceries to a widow whose husband died three years ago...
7. Interview with @eliany
@ubongudofot has also done another of his Showcase interviews - this time with @eliany, a hardworking Medical Practioner and Steemian from Nigeria...
8. Contests on Steem
@disconnect continues to publish his comprehensive daily list of current contests on Steem.
There are 70 contests in the latest list with over 550 STEEM in prizes...

I was just musing about development on Steemit in my most recent post, pondering out loud whether we'd keep using the gradually more and more antiquated interface forever... sounds like there might be some light at the end of that tunnel?
