“In the Spotlight” – Óscar Pérez aka @oscarps
Today the spotlight falls on Óscar Pérez
everyone by taking a closer look at the person behind the name and how
he discovered his passion for photography.
This is Óscar’s story written in his own words:
Who I am:
I’m writing about myself from a place far away from where I was born and grew up: my homeland, Galicia. This is where all my memories were formed and everything that transpired leading to my passion for photography. My name is Óscar Pérez and on Steemit I am @oscarps, with optical and electronic parts in constant evolution as an essential part of my particular vision about life.
How it all began:
An old box full of photos, about our family in everyday life and landscapes, in my grandparent’s house, is one of the clearest memories that come to mind. I used to spend hours sorting through those black and white photos, some of them, very damaged because of time and neglect. They were my treasure, the family legacy and heritage, and this was my initial and probably most valuable contact with photography.
There were also two old cameras that have been with me ever since, as an important part of these warm and touching memories.
When I was a child, I started taking pictures with a camera that my parents gave me while we were travelling with the whole family to Pyrenees, Andorra, the borderland between France and Spain. The camera was a Konica, the most fantastic one for a boy who was taking his first steps in this world.
Those analogue cameras attracted me to the world of photography. Every time we went out I took my camera and enjoyed taking pictures. I’ve always been self-taught, although in the last few years I’ve been supported by great photographers who have shown me many tips, ideas and pointed me in the direction of courses in photography. I have no specific photography skills. I experiment and learn from experience, trial and error. I am always happy and open to suggestions, advice and photography techniques.
What I enjoy:
I’m fascinated with nature; I see in it a universe of possibilities. Nature offers changes every time, every day, every month. Everything is in constant motion and evolving. It is the beginning and the end happening over and over again, an unlimited source of feelings, smells colours and experiences.
How I work:
First of all, I take note of the hours of daylight, then, choose a location according to the weather. I’m always trying to look for unusual angles, finding the image and not waiting for it to come to me. I never settle for a single angle, I really like to explore all the possibilities.
In my creative process, I mix emotions, music, thoughts, what I see and what I want to see. Then, I do my photographic editing work in which all these elements and the technique converge.
My goals as a photographer:
I want to excite and move the viewer, awake the memories and feelings, make the image come alive again when everyone sees it, as a joint vision common to all, instead of a personal insight.
I’m not seeking admiration, I just feel good giving frozen moments to the world, that attract attention, alert the senses, create confusion or something to test the viewer’s imagination.
My equipment:
I started my photographic adventures with a Konica, as well as a Kodak Camera. Later on, I had an Olympus E410 (which I love). I also tried Canon cameras but when I switched to Nikon I realized that its functions and sensors fit perfectly with the type of photos I like to take. Now I’m working with a Nikon D7100, a 4x4 camera that suits my shooting style.

About The Talent Club
We are a club with reserved admission rights that brings together the best and most outstanding members of the Hispanic community, giving them voice and vote, since our structure is democratic. We have created our own collaborative space, helping each other and ourselves, so that we do not have to depend on external votes from others anymore.
That is why, among other things, we allocate a part of our individual SP to the service of a common account, that of the club, with which we can help each other. In 2 ½ months we have distributed, among its members and friends’ projects, more than 4,500 votes with less than 2% of autovote. We’re already actively helping other projects, such as, Qurator, Helpie, Witness Castellano and Mosqueteros.

Tupamalo
