Excursion to the Land of Cinderella and the Ice Princess
I visited my parents for a couple of days because last Sunday was my mom's birthday. One of my mom's friends on the party told us about this exhibition of ice sculptures somewhere in Dresden. That friend was very excited about how artfully everything was created so we decided to visit this exhibit too.
Winterwelten - Eis- und Schnee-Skulpturen-Ausstellung.
This is one of the biggest ice and snow sculpture exhibition worldwide in the winter 2017/18. Twentyfive international artists created masterpieces of sculpture of 200 tonnes snow and ice. Some of these artworks are up to 7 meters high and 8 tonnes in weight. The artists worked up to four months in the environment with "room"-temperature at minus degrees Celsius on 500 blocks of different sized blocks. The themes among others are inspired by wintersport, fairytales and animated films or Dresdens famous architecture. But watch yourself ...
The motive that impressed me most was a sculpture of the Dresden Frauenkirche.

The Dresden "Fürstenzug" is actually a large mural of a mounted procession of the rulers of Saxony. It's painted on 23,000 Meissen porcelain tiles. The iceblocks are carved from the backside here and the silhouettes of the horses and people shimmer in the head lights.

I hope you liked my journey through this ice cold snow fairies and winter wonderland. We had to leave it first after about 20 minutes to rest and warm up with some hot tea in an extra room before we went back for another round ... ❄️❄️❄️
