The existing challenges
Data or information is important for the running, maintaining, running and improving any system in use. Thus, its importance in such intricate and important matters such as the running of economic activities and more importantly the one discussed herein, employment, and its related functions. With the advent of the internet, people have employed of such an opportunity to come up with ways such as having resume information in the public domain in order to make themselves as available as possible to new prospective employers. This has been implemented through use of social networking sites that are platforms for people to have profiles and thus available for interested parties looking for specific skills to be in connection with the relevant individuals. Such hosting sites provide this service at no charge. This may seem fair but unbeknownst to the user, the social companies sell their data to different corporations who use the data for their economic plans. Thus, the need for a system that is fair in the distribution of revenue in regard to the contributions of each player to the sum of income derived from the respective business.

Another issue with the existing platforms for such purposes of displaying and hosting these various user resumes is the high possibility of fabrications and falsehoods in the documents. Information on them is not regulated, verified or validated. It rather gives a feeling of uncertainty at face value due to there not being no existing validation done. This would thus necessitate subsequent validation procedures to ensure employers are getting the exact thing. This introduces the need for a system that can has a sense of validation from different sources to give in integrity. This thus necessitates the use of a system that transparent, immutable and secure. A system that can be seen simultaneously by all parties with an aim of diminishing monopoly due to centralization of data by one party. The aforementioned challenges to better handling of the data provided has been tackled by application of blockchain technology whereby there is decentralization of the operations, transparency due to the visibility to uses and even use of cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange in exchange of data between parties. Also, is the strong aspect of validation of any data, validation of users and even updating of any data present within the system to ensure there is accuracy at any time it is required to be accessed.

SPRINGROLE thus aspires to first and foremost correct the inefficiency of data inaccuracy that is presented by existing hosting sites for persons’ resumes by implementing validation procedures. This is done through background checks on users by parties on the network as well as reference checks from other sources as a way of validation. Such may include verifications from institutions and companies of former employment that may be on the network and may verity them. This leads to the establishment of a reputable system for whom trust can be developed and reliable in terms of authenticity of information provided. Many different parties are involved in the process of validation of information provided on the platform in different ways at their own level. They serve to build trust to the system as being enablers of the process of validating of resumes. Individuals may do this through attesting to the skills of individuals through endorsement of skills one possesses or in other ways such as university instructors giving a comment on the quality of projects performed by the students under them. Economic institutions such as companies may give information on the performance of a former employee, duration of employments and other exemplary features that may be notifiable and relevant. Furthermore, even educational institutions such as colleges play a part as they can give confirmation on the completion of a degree by an individual as well as accompany other intricate information such as transcript results, duration of stud and even other notable aspects such as participation in outdoor activities. For those with qualifications in online provided courses and studies, the involved platforms may attest and confirm that the subject under scrutiny did indeed complete their coursework and passed through them. Such institutions improve the accuracy of information provided. This is in contrast to the existing social platforms whereby validity procedures such as those by the players above are not observed thus enabling displaying of falsified information and deception to prospective employers.

With the systems of verification in place, it is important to know of which information validation can be done, is needed and how best to go about it. These resumes will be on display for sharing, attestation and even viewing while containing three parts: schooling history, employment experience and even the accompanying skill sets of an individual. Each of the three aspects would be validated separately and the steps and parties involved all stored on the block chain in order to promote honesty and transparency. Aspects such schooling and employment can be verified through the respective organizations and institutions in a simple fashion. This is also possible through checking profiles of these institutions for information on the subject in case they post such data such as graduated students for a given year and employees on the site.

Authentication of the accompanying skillsets of a job seeker may require more involving steps to establish a good understanding. This may be done through the use of proficiency tests. This is problematic in terms of the inaccuracy of the results that may accompany the test due to the narrow scope as well as it not being focused on the most importantly needed skills. This is further made unclear by the aspect of skills being opinionated by individuals. This problem is addressed by the platform through crowdsourcing of such details from other players. Thus, one may recommend one to endorse their skills which would give points due to the endorser’s reputation on the specific skill on the network. Here the individual scores sum up for the user being endorsed. Similarly, users may choose on their own to endorse the skills of a user. Accompanying these activities is the token cost to those doing the endorsing and reward to those being endorsed. Similarly, there is an eventual token payout to the endorsers as incentive for them to continue endorsing other users in their circles within the network. These endorsements are thus in need for regulation and control. This is to avoid cases of free endorsements that could be done even by persons with no ability in the subject field which gives false expectations. Another is the lack of control by the other party in accepting or rejecting endorsements leading to unnecessary spamming which can be annoying and give off false information. Such irregularities are subdued by charging each endorsement done at a given cost due to different factors such as reputation of the endorser and giving one the option of rejecting unnecessary endorsements.

For a system that aims at ensuring that the data inserted into the system is factual, it is necessary to put in place user verification mechanisms that enhance its aspect of accountability. This done through control of features on the platform that users who have provided a given amount of information and with some level of involvement of activities can have access to. It is done at two levels. First is those that have only provided verified email addresses- they have the freedom to roam around the platform and have a look at the features provided but have limited access to usage of some features. The second level of access requires the providing of more personal information such a national identification number- this allows access to all features on the platform. This method is a deterrent to bot who may want to carry out malpractices on the platform such as spamming activities and giving misinformation. This thus gives a sense of sanity and control in the system. For organizations that may have profiles, it is convenient to have one or if may, a few individuals who can be responsible and accountable for the activities on the platform.
More security features exist in order to prevent fraud that may arise from users or even spamming. A cost is incurred for endorsements and thus discouraging unnecessary spamming. Use of certified examiners who would give better trust to the score attained on skills. A limit on number on number of endorsements that can be made by a user during a period of time. Change in value and prices of endorsements that become rejected in order to discourage spamming. These are among the many mechanisms put in place in order to prevent malpractice.
