Entertainment Blog #114 | Dallas Buyers Club [2013] - Sometimes it Takes a Hustler to Change the World..
Dallas Buyers Club is a Biographical drama movie from 2013. The movie goes around in the mid-1980 environment. Actually, I was surprised not to know this movie. Matthew McConaughey (Ron) and Jared Leto (Rayon) play the main roles here.
Talking About The Movie..
Ron Woodroof is a cowboy and a gambler and also a cheater.. with a really skinny body. Since he always has some money in his hands, he used to be with women and drugs. And one day, he blacks out inside his apartment. When he wakes up, he's in the hospital. And what the doctor in charge had to say shocked him.
When Ron was unconscious, the doctor had taken a blood sample of him and sent it for testing. Then later they found out that Ron has AIDS. He was surprised to hear about this because society including Ron thinks that only Homo-sexual people get AIDS. Even though the doctors including Dr. Eve tried to explain the situation to him, he never wanted to know the truth.
But one thing struck his mind. Doctors said that according to his records, he only can survive 30 days maximum. At first, Ron tried ignoring that. But when time passes by, he realizes that this can be true. So he tried AZT, which is a trial medicine for AIDS. When the supplies run out, Ron started searching for the drugs available for AIDS around the world.
That's when his AZT supplier gives him details of a Mexican Doctor who has some kinda medicine for AIDS. Now, Ron is on his 28th day and hopeless. This is a new hope. So he went to Mexico and reached the doctor. And he got the drugs. But he bought drugs not only for himself.
After going there, he makes a good connection with that Mexican doctor and gets more information about the drug and Ron smuggled some drugs to the USA to sell to AIDS patients. Since selling unregistered drugs is illegal, Ron and his friend, Rayon starts "Dallas Buyers Club" which sells member subscriptions so members can have medicine for free.
My Experience..
I never thought that this movie would be this great. Matthew McConaughey was excellent. Look at his commitment to the character. He had to lose a huge amount of muscle for this character. On the other hand.. Jared Leto.. at first, I thought it was a woman who is acting as Rayon. Since I didn't check the cast before watching the movie, that didn't come to my mind. The overall experience of the movie was pretty great. it's funny..it's emotional.. it's everything.
Also, I have a thing for Biography movies. I think this movie has done justice to the character Ron Woodroof.
Ratings..
Ratings are pretty great too. I'm thinking about how I missed this movie. It has received a number of awards including Oscar Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Matthew McConaughey) and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Jared Leto) in 2013. Also, it has earned 56$ million against a 5$ million budget..

In older days, many diseases were considered as outcomes of homosexuality.
That's the thing. It just worsens things those days.
One heck of a movie..😍 . I too Couldn't recognize Jerad Leto until the movie finishes and do some bg research about the movie..
Seems like we both have the same experience with this movie 🐒
