Entertainment Blog #115 | Knock at the Cabin [2023] - Save the Family OR the Humanity !!

M. Night Shyamalan is one of Hollywood's most talented and gifted directors. He has directed some mind-twisting movies throughout the years. He had some movies which failed at Box Office because they were too awkward to understand. And yet.. he emerges again and again with new creations. And his latest movie is "The Knock at the Cabin".

Don't get confused with the 2012 movie "Cabin in the Woods". This movie is not about that kind of cabin. This can be considered an apocalyptic, psychological horror movie. It was released on 3rd February this year and I personally went to see the movie. Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Ben Aldridge, and Kristen Cui play the main roles here.

Talking About The Movie...

Eric (Jonathan Groff) and Andrew (Ben Aldridge) are a gay couple who have gone through a lot of stuff. Since they can't have children, they decided to adopt a child. So, they adopted Wen (Kristen Cui). After some time, they move to a cabin in a remote area, a forestry area to spend their lives peacefully.

They were going well. Wen had a lot of space to play outside the house. One day, Wen was out playing... catching grasshoppers. That's when Wen saw a stranger reaching her. Her parents must have told her not to talk with strangers. Since the stranger was polite, she talked with him and caught some grasshoppers together. The stranger was Leonard.

But things got strange when Leonard's friends start to show up through the trees. Leonard got strange too. He started talking strangely.. like he is afraid of something bigger. So Wen also got afraid and got inside the cabin calling her dads. It didn't take much time for Leonard and his friends to reach the cabin and tell Wen's dads to open the door or they'll break and enter.

So they did as they said.. broke the door and entered. And they tried to calm them down and tell the story that they gotta say. And what they had to say.. kinda confused every member of the family. Leonard and 3 others say that one of this family which includes Eric, Andrew, and Wen has to sacrifice willingly in order to save the world from a series of catastrophes including earthquakes, tsunamis, pandemics, etc.

My Experience..

I was hiped to watch a movie by M. Night Shyamalan in a theatre. So i went to watch this. Actually, I had fallen asleep for like 30 minutes or so. About 2 weeks after watching the movie, it was released on VOD. Then I got the chance to watch the missing part.

For me, the movie covers the basic part. But the solution to the problem in the plot is straightforward. That's the biggest issue. There should be an alternate solution but there's nothing like that in the movie. that's the biggest drawback.

Ratings..

Ratings are average for this movie. I think the audience expected something better than this from M. Night Shyamalan. That's the problem. The movie did OK at Box Office but this is not a movie that I can easily recommend. That's a fact.
