Entertainment Blog #117 | Locke [2013] - A Movie With a One Visible Character..

We all lie. I tell lies every day. Sometimes we don't want to lie, but a lie can make a conversation more entertaining. But sometimes, we have to lie for the sake of a better future. Sometimes we do things that regret after doing it. And we lie to our closest people so it makes it easy to survive... to hide the truth s it won't uncover. This movie is a good example of this scenario.

Locke is a psychological drama movie from 2013. It was distributed by A24 and this is considered as one of the best of their movies. Actually, for almost 95% of the movie, we see only the character Ivan Locke which was starred by Tom Hardy. We don't see all the other characters in this movie. We just hear their voices over the phone. It's already interesting, isn't it??

Talking About The Movie...

Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) is a supervisor working for a construction company. He is to supervise a large concrete pour in Birmingham. Actually, it's going to be the biggest non-nuclear facility, non-military concrete pour in European history. That phrase is going to be repeated over and over again in this movie.

He has planned everything precisely and now he just has to make some calls to make sure the other workers, suppliers, and contractors are ready. While he was making calls, he receives a call from an unknown number and that call changes the whole plan for tomorrow's project.

A few months ago, Ivan and his friends had some drinks and fun at a bar after finishing a project successfully. Ivan is a married man. But on that day, drunk Ivan made a mistake with a woman, Bethan. Since she was in her 40s, Ivan didn't think of the outcome of the intercourse. And it was a one-time thing. But he had given his number anyway to her.

It was roughly 7 months ago. And that unknown call is from a hospital in London saying that a woman named Bethan is in labor and she wants Ivan to have by her side when the labor takes place. Ivan tried to explain the situation but Bethan insists Ivan to come to the hospital.

But Ivan is a married man who has a son waiting at home to watch a football match with him. And how Ivan is going to explain this to his wife?? How is he going to handle the situation with the Construction firm? It's up to you to find out.

My Experience..

This is a unique movie. I don't think there's another movie like this. It's like the whole movie takes place inside a car. And the only character we see is Ivan Locke. So it can be boring for someone but I really enjoyed it. I felt that tense that Ivan may have felt at that situation when watching the movie. So yeah.. it's great.

Ratings..

Ratings are quite good in this movie. It's a different type of movie and the filmmakers have nailed it. This movie can not be everyone's choice but it's worth giving a shot..
