Entertainment Blog #119 | Cocaine Bear [2023] - Just Like the Title Says...

In most movies, comedy is mixed with another genre. Action comedy, Adventure comedy, and Horror comedy are great examples. Not all people are fans of that comedy factor. I'm not that much of a fan of comedy. So you know where I belong. Anyway, today is about a Horror Comedy.. Let's see about that.

"Cocaine Bear" is a movie from this year that was released on 24th February worldwide in theatres. But it didn't take more than a month to release it to VOD. That's strange. And this movie is inspired by some true events which took place in 1985. Most of the actors are unknown to me. I only know Brooklynn Prince who plays the character of Dee Dee in this movie.

Talking About The Movie...

At the start, I said that this movie is based on true events. At the start of the movie, a man named Andrew Carter Thornton II tries to smuggle cocaine by dropping them from a plane into a jungle. He dies when landing by a parachute. The cocaine packages were dropped at Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest, Georgia. The police were unable to recover the cocaine.

But they found a bear who was killed by an overdose of cocaine. And you know what, it was observed at the post-mortem that its stomach was full of cocaine when it was dead. The bear is currently on display at the Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington, Kentucky. The bear was named Pablo Eskobear.

Even though the bear in the real story was dead of an overdose, in the movie, the bear is not dead. Instead of dying, it becomes a killing machine and kills almost everyone who comes up to its sight. The story consists of two groups of people.

One is the mother of Dee Dee who is a small girl, who went to Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest which is nearby her home with his friend, Henry to paint waterfalls in the forest. Later she was joined by park rangers Liz and Peter. Dee Dee and Henry find some cocaine and the bear who is now fond of cocaine reaches the scene and the rest.. it's up to you to find out.

The other group is the drug dealers and the police. Both are going after drug packages. And as usual, when one party finds some cocaine, the other party joins the scene. And you know... some shots fire.. And that's when the bear comes...

My Experience..

I usually don't like comedy. But here, the comedy comes with bloody violence with a bear who is high on cocaine. Some actions of the bear generate comedy and also a sense of irreverence at people adds joy to watch. Also, dynamic camera angles should be praised. It adds energy and momentum to the movie, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats throughout. The movie is rated R because of drug substances and harsh language.

Ratings..

Ratings are above the average for his movie. I mean, many people like a Thriller Comedy. Overall, "Cocaine Bear" is an excellent movie that delivers on its promise of entertainment and excitement. If you're looking for a movie that is both fun and thrilling, "Cocaine Bear" is definitely worth checking out.
