Is fever an illness?

Fever is a typical symptom of many illnesses and diseases, even though it is not a true illness and has a wide range of possible causes. As in other parts of the world, several diseases, including the common cold and more severe conditions like dengue, cancer, and malaria, can cause fever in Sri Lanka.

Fever can also be brought on by illnesses including pneumonia, typhoid, and influenza in Sri Lanka. These illnesses are often caused by bacteria or viruses. This can also be spread by direct contact with an infected person or by drinking water or eating food.

In addition to viral disorders, non-infectious conditions such as the immune system, cancer, and medical reactions can also cause fever. These conditions can be more difficult to diagnose and treat and may require specialized medical care.

In Sri Lanka, fever is a common sign of many illnesses and infections and can result from several different factors. Early diagnosis and treatment are important in managing fever and preventing serious complications. In addition, anyone who has a fever and displays additional sickness symptoms, like persistent fever, should see a doctor. Reduced mosquito populations and improved sanitation and hygiene standards can also prevent the development of infectious diseases in Sri Lanka and other regions of the world.
