Planet Positive | Irrigation Normalization for Flood Control in Inland North Aceh
Sunday, October 30, 2022
Approaching the end of the year and of course entering the rainy season, it is something that often happens in most areas in Indonesia, the high-intensity rainy season can cause floods in several areas, such as what recently happened in North Aceh.
The handling of floods that occurred in North Aceh is a serious concern for the Regional Government and the local community, following up on the incident, the local government and local communities are trying to control floods by implementing the Normalization program to clean irrigation canals that have been closed due to piles of garbage and plants. wild that grows around the canal.
Indiscriminate disposal of waste has become one of the causes of obstruction to the flow of waste water produced by high rainfall and overflowing river water, so that there is a potential for flooding, therefore this Normalization program is carried out as a form of effort to control or to prevent the potential for subsequent flooding.
Due to several flood events that occurred in most areas due to piles of garbage and unstructured waste management problems.
This normalization program has been going on for about 3 days, and coincidentally today it entered the area where I live, so I had the opportunity to be directly involved in helping the implementation process.
Irrigation channel normalization is carried out using excavators belonging to private companies operating in our area, and the implementation process is assisted by most of the local communities, irrigation normalization is planned to last up to one week with an area coverage of 10,000 hectares.
In the following, I will present some documentation of the implementation of the irrigation normalization program that I was able to devote to when I was at the location I was working on today.
Hopefully with the implementation of the irrigation normalization program for flood control in the interior of North Aceh, it can overcome the potential for flood disasters that have been troubling the community.

Good post, it is interesting to know the risk prevention actions in the face of the rains in your region and how the population joins these actions for their own benefit. Here in Venezuela we have had some catastrophes due to rains, floods and landslides in the last few days.
