BUSY Great Workaround When SP Too Low for Slider; Too High for Across-the-Board Up Vote

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

When I joined Stemit six months ago, my 100% up-vote was worth one cent. This meant that for the first 20 upvotes, the recipient received a whopping penny. There was no distinguishing between the two-word comment and 5K-word original post. Life was simple.

When I received a post from a person with enough SP to vote on a sliding scale, I never knew how much effort and time could be spent without a strategic plan for scaling a vote.

A few months ago, Busy.org began offering the sliding vote on its platform for all users. It didn’t interest me initially; but, with a recent uptick in my SP, having a lot to do with the December rise in the value of the SBD, and my choice to power up every penny received, my voting power increased significantly.

What was a penny in August, became ~15 cents in December. Suddenly, the two-word “Great post!” was getting the same 15-cent up vote as the person who spent time dually blogging and vlogging in a single post.

Instantly, conscience kicked in; and, I knew I needed to level the playing field in fairness. This brought me to pondering a plan of action for the sliding scale. Not having the necessary SP of 500+, I knew I would have to begin working between platforms, spending time voting between the two. So, I decided to spend a set portion of the day, up-voting 100%, posts tagged “Introduce Yourself” containing a special energy/quality to the work.

For those new to Steemit, there are several ways to learn the value of your upvote. I use Steem Now. In the top left corner, there’s a calculator which allows you to see the value of your vote at a certain percentage point.

Every day, I take the first ten IY posts that show genuine effort in posting; and give them 100%. I do this because I can remember not too long ago how glad I was to receive percentage votes from people with whale status. Of course, I'm still very thankful for their up vote; but, I am reminded that my way of thanking them, always added up to only one penny. I had to get past the temptation to apologize; because, I knew that they knew, aside from a tipU, the penny was the best tangible measure of my gratitude.

And now, it was my turn to begin encouraging others just starting out. I hardly expected the swift increase in SP; and, as noted was caught off guard to create a plan.

After I up vote the top few IY posts for the day, I adjust my settings in Busy.org down to .02. This means for the rest of my time on the platforms, I will up vote ONLY from the busy.org page. Most likely, the posts will be generic content deserving of an upvote; and occasionally, in this time, I will adjust my scale to 100% for a whale or anyone who creates an exceptional post.

The goal is to keep the SP percentage from dipping below 80%. When I log off, on return, I will have allowed enough of the dip to get back to the 100%. I resume this process; starting with the 100% up vote; before adjusting the scale.

That’s it. I now have a newfound respect for people with tons of SP; as, I get a glimpse of what they have to go through deciding the most fair percentage to give an upvote.

So, if you’re just starting out, and your up vote is only worth a penny, be glad. Of course, better to get that SP up and have more power; because, once you get a plan of action, it feels a lot better having the opportunity to give more, rewarding worthy posts a bit more for the effort.

Perhaps, someday a platform will take my advice and connect the sliding scale to the up vote with a right click; but, until that time the back and forth between platforms will suffice.

Of course, the reason I do the jaunt between Steemit and Busy is because I like the post-only, non-busy view of Steemit; while, appreciating the adjustable scale of Busy.

That’s it.

If you found this post helpful, remember to up vote for the greater good of the Steemit community.

If you're new to STEEM, your upvote costs you zero cents. It's actually a daily gift given to every STEEMIAN, to gift to others for the work they do. Every upvote of any value greater than zero; aids in growing the user rank; that number outside the user's name. The higher the rank, the greater the SP, the greater the value (gift) of the up vote to be dispersed to fellow users.

Btw, if you're reading as a spectator who hasn't joined Steemit; you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by taking a few seconds to sign up.

Peace.
