The Rules and Background

The Football World Cup 2018 will start on June 14, 2018 in Russia and we have 32 teams playing. The background of this bidding soccer game explained in a nutshell below.

  • Steemians can bid a certain amount of SBD (via Steembay) to become owner of a certain team (they like or they think that will become champion!)
  • For every Team playing the World Cup (32) we will publish a Steembay post during June 13 and June 14 where all Steemians have 7 days time to bid SBD for the dedicated team in one of the 32 posts
  • The one with the highest bid after payout is the OWNER of this national team and has to pay the final amount to the account @sportsgeek
  • We will set a minimum amount of 25SBD per team, if no one bids for one team the entire competition is in danger should a team become world champion that has not been won by a Steemian (however I guarantee someone will buy – if not you it will be me, sure no one wants that lol)! To avoid that – teams without bid after payout of these posts (7 days so June 20) can still be ”bought” throughout the World Cup until we reach the end of the group phase.
  • All 32 final bids will be thrown into a total basket (so we should have ideally a minimum of 800 SBD in the pot - likely higher). All funds will remain in the @sportsgeek account.
  • After 4 weeks of the World Cup the Owner of the Top 3 Team will be rewarded with 50% of the total basket of all winning team bids

Prizes

  • First Place (World Champion): 30% of the pot (240 SBD if total pot is 800 SBD)

  • Second Place: 15% of the pot (120 SBD if total pot is 800 SBD)

  • Third Place: 5% of the pot (40 SBD if total pot is 800 SBD)

  • The other 50% of the total basket will be paid to Charity!

The charities we support are @papilloncharity from South Africa and @steemarity from Austria.

bid 30.0

The #steembay Auction has finished.
The winning bidder is @rondras with an amount of 30.000 SBD - Congratulations!

Go Argentina!!!! This is great, now I have a second team to support... not bad given the bad performs the Germans had in the first game...

Thank you for this event. SBD have been transferred.

Thanks a lot for attending and congratulations to your ownership. Good luck for Argentina!

Congratulations again @rondras - you are the final owner of a strong team. In view of the teams without owner after the auctions I had in mind to handle a new round of auctions for a lower entry bid. But as this might be unfair for original owners I would like to get your opinion. For the entire pot and charity it would be good to have more bids of course - but in case one team finally enter Top 3 where someone owns this via a bid of 5 SBD only it might be unfair. Let me know your thoughts please!

I think you should go ahead with lower minimum amounts. I do not think that it is unfair for the current bidders as everybody still has the chance to buy some of the remaining teams for a low amount. Also, it would increase the pot available to the winners no matter how much you get from these bids. However, it does not necessarily have to be the case that this will increase the profit for charity. If one of the teams with no owner should win any of the prices, their full profit should go to charity.

Thanks @rondras if the winning teams have no owner these prices will indeed go to the charity pot! I have not received a lot other official opinions by the others but I also tend to handle it the way you said!

Bid accepted! Highest bid is now @rondras's bid of 30.000 SBD

bid 25.0

Bid accepted! Highest bid is now @theaustrianguy's bid of 25.000 SBD

@theaustrianguy's bid of 25.000 SBD has been overbid by @rondras's bid of 30.000 SBD

The bid was rejected because the amount is to low. The bid has to be higher than @rondras's bid of 30.000 SBD.
