My Actifit Report Card: May 1 2019

Another day and another. Actifit post from me, I am enjoying actually doing posts with shots taken on the day sometime, all be it with my iPhone and not my normal Sony Camera and edited a few days or weeks later on my computer..
Todays step count may well be a challenge,I am preparing the text for the post before i start my working day, but my legs are definitely feeling the effort put in yesterday going up and down so many flights of stairs so it will be interesting to see at the end of the day how many steps I actually manage to do today.
Well I surprised myself and actually did over 13k steps today well over my 10k goal
For yesterdays post i shared some shots heading away from my office, so for today I thought I would share some shots from this mornings walk to the office
Starting with this first shot as I walked out of Grand Central terminal, in this area even at just before 7AM the traffic is pretty busy already as you can see

Work has started int he city at 7Am as you can see in the next shot of this guy painting the temporary wall around one of the shops that is bein renovated

But not everyone is awake, as this next shot shows, when I first came to NYC this was something I never expected to see, but it is something sadly I see all to regularly.
I do feel for the people who for whatever reason are Ina situation where they have to sleep on the street, I do not give money to people on the streets, as you never know what they will use it for, however I do fairly often feel for them and will buy a bottle of water, a coffee or a remade sandwich from a deli and give it to them

And next we have a street vendor selling fruits and vegetables setting up his stand before the morning rush.

And then i came across this desk on the sidewalk, not an uncommon site to see bits of furniture on the street on Garbage pickup days but this was the only bit of garbage out on the street this morning, so not sure if this is the first bit out for todays pickup, or someone just could not wait for the scheduled pick up day and put this out anyway

And finishing of with this shot of the wheel of a bike locked up to a pole on the side of the street, that clearly needs a bit of work before the owner will be riding it, this bike has been like this for a few weeks now so I suspect the owner may have given up on it

You never know what you will see on your walk to work do you? I remember working downtown Indy was the same way. I often gave food to those on the street but like you never money. It is hard to see, never know what brings them to this point. The garbage...another story ;)
Yes it is so hard seeing them and your right you never know what events lead them to be there and you have to feel for them I think giving food and or drinks is the best thing we can do for them
That is sad to see people like that on the street. We have some people that stand on street corners near where we live. Funny they always seem to be able to afford cigarettes...

Funny you should mention the cigarettes I see that often as well, I have read articles about some of the ones on the street begging, some are perfectly fine have apartments or ride trains into the city they just have found they can mil tourists and workers to give them money which covers there expenses, one even claimed he made 100 Grand a year on the streets of NYC
I know there are others of course who also are in need of money, some for basic needs a train ticket home or a place to stay for the night but its hard to ever know which is which, so thats why unless my gut tells me to I seldom give money to people on the street I would rather give to some of the charities that provide shelter or food to help them
But when you see someone sleeping on the street like this and it is not an uncommon sight it tears at my heart I must say, and thats why I often will head to the nearest deli and get them something for when they wake up
I have heard that too and I totally understand. It is extremely sad looking at both sides of it.

It is so hard to see, I have travelled a lot as you know and been in countries after wars, genocide and famine and seen such sad things that I will never forget, but this is something i never expected to see in NYC, or any first world city, and it is indeed it is so sad to see

I don't think the scenery for my to & fro work are that great, pretty boring... sighhhh
LOL I walk a different way each day to work, so I should be able to find shots from my actifit post for a while :)

Today I detoured about 10 blocks out of the direct root, was good for my daily steops and some new shots :)

Ah yes, street scenes in a city I love it @tattoodjay there is something about city that I love as much as my beloved deep seaside country. The combination of the two in one life is always a blessing, though I've not had much city of late.
As we see the increase in homeless I always think of the final decades of Rome. It worries me a bit as we know Rome did not end well, but what can we do. Just as those 'citizens' in their day knew not what was coming, but simply had to get up each day, eat, love , laugh, cry and work so too do all of we... Sorry rather contemplative this morning, most like this stressful week of Life things.

Yes I am a countryside seaside person at heart, but I do wonder if when I stop working in NYC if I will miss it
I do understand what you are saying about the last days of Rome, i do wonder the same myself these days it remain hopeful it’s not to late to see changes for the better not the worse
