Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir

For this post I will share some shots taken looking over the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park. Let me start with a panorama shot I took there, it does distort the view as the fence actually is fairly straight at this point but I still like this pano

This is a wider shot looking across the reservioir,

A little about the reservoir

The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir was built between 1858 and 1862, to the design for Central Park of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. It is 40 feet deep and holds a billion gallons of water, which at the time seemed to be a good amount of water for the city, nowadays it is speculated NYC goes through that amount of water in a few hours.
It was decommissioned as a reservoir for city water in 1993 but is a popular spot for people to walk and run around.

Now, this may be stretching the idea of the challenge a little but there are trees in these shots so I will include this as my entry for Tree Tuesday hosted by @old-guy-photos a challenge

You may have noticed the fountain in the previous shot, lets take a closer look at it in the next shot I understand the fountain shoots plumes of water about 60 Feet into the air.

You may also have noticed the two towers in the earlier shots, here is a shot of them, they are part of The Eldorado in the Upper West Side of Manhattan and building has 30 floors and was built between 1929-1932

And finishing off with what I believe is one of the pump house setups there.

The first shot definitely makes it look a lot bigger than it really is. Nice pictures and awesome information!

Yeah its not realistic I went to wide with the panorama shots but I decided to share it anyway and hoped the other shots gave a better sense of scale of it

Good shots, more meaningful because of the story. Any idea when it was named after Kennedy?

Thanks and according to wikipedia

It was renamed in honor of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in 1994 to commemorate her contributions to the city (which included saving Grand Central Terminal from demolition and then renovating it to be an architectural landmark, protesting against the building of structures which would hinder Central Park’s beauty, and serving as a board member of the Municipal Art Society) and because she enjoyed jogging in the area,[6] which lay beneath the windows of her 1040 Fifth Avenue apartment located on the Upper East Side.

Great shots again @tattoodjay. I love the first panorama shot of the reservoir and the one with The Eldorado on it.

thnks Kindly it is such a beautiful building and the Eldorado is such a cool building the people living there must have nice views over the park
