Sniffen Court

This is Sniffen Court on 36th Street in Manhattan, how I happened to learn about it may be of interest.

Outside my office building is one of the many Link NYC Wifi Hotspots and information terminals spring up all over the city, and the other day on the screen where it often shows information about the city it stated that Sniffen Court is where The Doors* shot the cover photo for the Strange Days Album cover, as I like the doors music I had to walk to 36th Street and check it out and hence this post

Sniffen Court is a registered historic district in NYC, as I understand it, one of the smallest historic districts actually.

The area is are named after John Sniffen a local builder and were originally carriage houses ( aka Stables), but as the need for carriage houses lessened, they were converted to other uses.

They were built in the 1860's and this area where I am showing in this post is where the Doors Shot the album cover

I have walked down this street a few times and noticed at a glance this entrance way and guessed it was a private residence or residences but till I saw the information on the Link System I had never really given it much thought, so I am glad I saw the info and checked it out
