Hummingbird Flower - A Freewrite

I've planted flowers for humming birds before. I happen to like Zinnia's and Salvia's, so have planted them early in the spring. I've also planted them in the middle of spring. And late in spring, too, come to think of it. They're pretty flowers, and the zinnia's look really nice surrounding the front tree.
Along with the flowers I like to stake up humming bird food on.. well.. on a stake. Keep it away from the ants. I'm not particularly fond of ants, but humming birds are pretty awesome.
I'll sit outside with my camera waiting for the perfect shot. Capturing a hummingbird in motion almost always makes for a great picture, but due to the speed of their wings it needs a bright day so the shutter speed can be quick.
I'm still waiting. Not for the bright day, that happens a lot. I'm still waiting for the humming birds! I've yet to attract one, but I've no issue at all attracting ants!

Them pesky ants, they will rule the world one day, just like in the old B Movie Phase IV, 91974) really old movie, good solid B horror flick of it's time.

hahaha - I have no problem attracting ants as well :)

EXCELLENT first freewrite -- hummingbirds also like fuchsia, but my family found that out by accident, while you did yours intentionally. Eventually, the hummingbirds will find you if they are in your area!

Oh, you will get a TON of bees, wasps, ants, and other beasts you may not want by doing that ... @whatisnew suggested Cardinal Climber Vines -- long, red trumpet-shaped flowers that hummingbirds like!

Thanks! Ants are really like grass for me; I cannot get grass to grow in the back yard, but it flourishes in a flower bed! And HTH does it grow out of concrete when I can't get it to grow out of dirt?? Maybe I just need to pave the yard.

I love zinnias and make sure I spread plenty of them around the gardens. They are beautiful and their color lasts well into the Autumn. The hummingbird's love
Bee Balm also, which is a tall flower, so I plant a nice size mound of that. I don't really get too many ants, but, I do get wasps, which I will gladly trade you for.

Thank you! And you can keep your wasps. I was stung four times this last summer, the last of which ended up sending me to an urgent care centre. Wasps are nature's a******s.

Have fun capturing birds on the move Victor, not easy with those zippy little ones between gorgeous flowers.

That's actually a neat idea. I wonder if it would keep the squirrels off too.
