The God Lykata (PowerHouseCreatives Contest)

Lykata, a heretofore unknown God of the Modern Realms, is the God of Procrastination, Dad Jokes, and Puns. He is the twin brother to Apatia, the God of Apathy, and likes to refer to himself as the "Leader of the Modern Realms Puntheon."

As the God of Procrastination, Lykata has a large number of followers, primarily fathers and students, whether they realise it or not. Although Lykata does not actively look to grow his number of followers (he wants to, but he just hasn't gotten around to it yet), his number of followers grows very organically by the sheer act of procrastination, which continues to lead to a cycle of growing power. His is very much a self-realised godhood: when his followers procrastinate, Lykata finds he can also procrastinate in growing his own sphere of influence, which leads to more followers as they begin to procrastinate, and so forth. Lykata's wife, Kalvavva, tries to interfere with this cycle, but her efforts are met with a shrug and a joke

This is not to say that Lykata is negligent, lazy, or uneducated. Quite the contrary he is a well educated God and develops some very cunning schemes to be able to continue to put other schemes off. He likes to point out to Kalvavva that, despite her best efforts to get her husband to actually get something done, he has already gotten something done by being practically everywhere. In his role as God of Dad Jokes he will then paraphrase Steinbeck's infamous quote from The Grapes of Wrath:

Wherever there's a guy putting something off until tomorrow, I'll be there.
Wherever there's a student not studying, I'll be there.
Wherever there's an author waiting until the day before a deadline to finish an article, I'll be there.
And wherever there's a kid not yet cleaning his room, why, I'll be there too.

He does one day plan to write that down on a plaque to bug his wife with; he just hasn't done it yet.

Lykata views his own literary prowess and quite advanced. His wife disagrees, as do his several children.

5. Corinthians.jpg (Lykata and Kalvavva arguing over the interpretation of a literary quote)

As the self-proclaimed God of Dad Jokes and Puns Lykata is continually pulling forth one-liners and constantly finds what he considers amusing and hilarious in about any situation. "Did you hear about the one armed fisherman who was telling stories at the bar? He said he caught one this big." At the end of this joke his children will walk out of the room while Lykata laughs himself to tears.

Sometimes, however, it will lead him to say something he shouldn't.

18. Thinking Out Loud.jpg

He promises to get better and learn to keep his mouth shut... some day.

Lykata's twin brother is Apatia, the God of Apathy, with whom he is often confused. Apatia does not care at all that the two are often confused, even when Kalvavva confuses Apatia for her husband and begins to nag him to just do something! Apatia will shrug, not caring that she's even there.

Despite that, Lykata will actually dress as his brother; he finds it funny.

53. Halloween Apathy Final.jpg

For the most part, however, Lykata does care that they get confused, and often at that; he has built a plan to find a way to make them more distinct, which he has every intention of one day implementing.

LOL, excellent entry for this contest! Those comics are funny. I'm willing to bet that you like Lykata because he is much like you. Am I right on that?

haha, well, maybe a little... or a lot... :)

I think I'd better tell you tomorrow, this way I invoke God Lykata

Haha! Well played!

Well, this is defintiely a funny god, badly needed. Unbeknown to myself, I must have become a follower many years ago.
Most gods known to mankind's sense of funny is as bad as their sense of justice, so to be the god of bad jokes, he's pretty likable to me.
Great job and great comic strips

That's the great think about Lykata; he gains followers without even trying!

Thanks for the compliments and for stopping by! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Haha, hilarious- god of Dad jokes and puns. Fab cartoons, WW. 😊

Thank you! I must do more of them; I really do enjoy it.

Oh my gosh this is epic! So glad I popped back around to read this. I have definitely added to the power of procrastination myself. Haha, haven't we all? It usually hits hardest when trying to enter a PHC contest and then I don't realize until it's over that I missed it...😂

Right?? "I'll send that post.. right after a coffee." "I'll make that coffee... right after I play with the dog." And so it goes.

Haha! Great job sir wwwiebe! I was laughing from the first sentence! It's a good thing this is total fiction and has nothing to do with you!

Yup! Nothing to do with me at all. lol! :)

lol..that's what I thought. Well you don't procrastinate very good when it comes to posting anyway!
