Kuta Fortress Gle Batee Iliek leaves a history of heroism and betrayal. Now abandoned at the eastern end of the Krueng Batee Iliek bridge. Far more east, eight martyrs (shaheed lapan) were buried.

The monument to the Kuta Gle fortress was built to commemorate the martyrs who died defending the Aceh kingdom against Dutch aggression. The monument holds a small story about the heroic nature of Acehnese fighters.

During the time of the war upheaval against the Dutch in Batee Iliek, it was famous for an Acehnese warrior leader, Commander Said who led the fight against the Dutch in Kuta Gle, Batee Iliek.

During the 23 years the Kuta Gle fortress was very difficult to conquer the Netherlands, even though they were equipped with full weaponry. The strategy used by Commander Said was quite unique. Dutch troops who tried to go up to Kuta Gle hill were left alone. But when most of the Dutch troops were climbing, Commander Said's troops toppled the pieces of coconut trunks that had been prepared from the top of the hill. As a result, the coconut stem hit the Dutch troops and they fell to the river to death.

The Kuta Gle fortress could only be conquered in 1901. A "Cuak" was called Abu Pang. He betrayed by bringing Dutch troops through other roads to attack the Kuta Gle fortress. By the Dutch Abu Pang was put in a jar so that the residents would not be seen. Because of that betrayal, the Kuta Glee fortress was subdued and controlled by the Dutch. Said Commander himself was killed at the place with most of the fighters due to the betrayal of Abua Pang.

In memory of the event, a monument was built in the foothills of Kuta Gle, precisely at the eastern end of the Batee Iliek Bridge. The monument is now a silent milestone amidst the crowds of local tourists who visit the Krueng Batee Iliek tourist area every day. It is rare to know that at a recreation place there has been a big break against the Dutch who have tried to conquer for decades.

Shahid Eight

Not far from Kuta Gle, about a few dozen kilometers to the east. a historical site of struggle against the Netherlands is also found in Tambue Village, Simpang Mamplam District, Bireuen District. The site is in the form of the graves of eight fighters called the Lapan Shahid.

It was named Syahid Lapan's tomb, because there were buried eight fighters who died against the Dutch. They are Tgk Panglima Prang Rayeuk Jurong Binje, Tgk Muda Lem Mamplam, Tgk Nyak Balee Ishak Blang Mane, Tgk Meureudu Tambue, Tgk Balee Tambue, What Syehk Lancok Mamplam, Muhammad Sabi Blang Mane, and Nyak Ben Matang Salem Blang Teumulek.

The story of the beauty of the Lapan Martyrs is very clearly written on the walls of the tomb. The heroic event took place in early 1902, the Lapan Martyrs blocked the Marsose troops. The Dutch fostered native troops numbered 24 people. They are all armed with fire. Whereas the eight Acehnese fighters were armed only with swords. But thanks to high fighting spirit, they managed to kill all the marsose.

After Lapan's forces succeeded in paralyzing all the Marsose soldiers, they collected weapons from the invaders. They dissolve in the euphoria of victory. Without realizing it suddenly a number of other Marshall soldiers came from Jeunieb's direction to help. The eight warriors were attacked blindly and died in blood.

The bodies of the martyrs were then interred in one hole. Because Marsose soldiers chopped up the body parts of the fighters with their own swords.

Now, every day the graves of the Lapan Martyrs are visited by people who want to vow. Not only from Bireuen Regency, but also from other areas outside Bireuen Regency. Every holiday there are those who come to take vows, like slaughtering cows or goats at the Tomb.

The road users also always stop briefly when they arrive in front of the Lapan Martyrs' grave to make a donation. In front of the tomb, concrete piggy banks in the form of miniature houses have been provided. It is said that, if road users do not stop and give alms if passing through the tomb, it will experience obstacles in the journey.

A rather unique Luhada Lapan tomb is shaded by a shady tree, the Sala Teungeut tree. It was named pohom sala teungeut, because around 6:00 p.m., the leaves of the tree clung to itself, as dusk came and returned to bloom the next day. The tree is three years younger than the age of the Lapan Syuhada tomb, until now it remains strong and strong.

Now, the location of eight martyrs' graves is like a tourist spot, built a place of worship with a very beautiful landscape setting making visitors feel more at home.
