American and Mexican collaboration, remake of the Argentine series El Marginal. Set in a prison on the border between Mexico and U.S.A. The leading character is Dante Pardo, a former Marine and now infiltrated, who will investigate the kidnapping US judge daughter, of which he is a bodyguard, so he will be sent behind bars by him with a false accusation to help him. I want to warn you that from now on you will run into some spoilers.

Dante is a tough guy that doesn't speak too much, arrived in prison in a few minutes he already knows what to do and when to do it, he immediately shows himself with a fighting that he easily wins. He gains the sympathy of many and the antipathy of some, who luckily for him are really a minority and will soon make them out. The whole thing is quite rapid, even too much, in a short time the infiltrated military will be able to discover that the judge's daughter is actually imprisoned in his same prison. He warns the brother about it, who pretends to be his lawyer so as not to attract suspicion, but instead of reporting the news to the judge, he decides to blackmail him because he has heavy debts with a gangster. Meanwhile, in the prison between murders and fightings, he manages to climb the hierarchies and make his way up to the top of the mafia in the penitentiary. The brother will end very badly, the daughter will be saved but Dante will be deceived by the judge and condemned to remain in prison because he thought that was involved in the brother extortion. He will even be able to convince the prison manager to release him for a day, he will go to the judge to clarify but the short speech will end really badly. From now on, the fulcrum will be the kidnapping of Dante's little son, as one of his former colleagues blackmails him to get money that Dante naturally does not have and from here the second part of the season opens.

Very interesting setting, prison practically self-managed by prisoners, underpaid guards are at gangs mercy, that corrupt them easily. Some scenes must be admitted that they were really bad, such as the scene in which the penitentiary manager looks for money and is almost going crazy to find it, after a break, in the next scene the money is already in front of him: where they was it we certainty don't known, it can only be imagined. Even the choice to send Dante right in the same prison where the judge's daughter was was quite questionable, although it simplifies a lot story course.

In "the Inmate" there are not many good characters, corruption is everywhere, starting from the penitentiary manager Peniche, shady, greedy, corrupt and unscrupulous, up to his prison boss, Mariano Tavares and Santito, crazy prisoner who can't wait to take drugs. The best of all is the Dante, who will not turn out to be a saint. Inevitable the love story, Dante falls in love with the psychologist, who will help him in turn save the kidnapped son.

If you are TV series fan set in prison, such as OZ, Prison Break or Orange is the new black, this one could be for you, don't expect anything new, considering some of the inconsistencies and forcing already described before, but the watching it quite nicely, above all thanks to the characters who manage to overwhelm a predictable and limited story.

13 episodes lasting about forty minutes each, the season finale is nice, it is not known if we will see a second season, but given that the 2016 prequel was quite successful with the second one it seems like it be quite probable.

Collaborazione Americana e Messicana, remake della serie argentina El Marginal. Ambientata in una prigione al confine tra Messico e U.S.A. Il protagonista si chiama Dante Pardo, ex marine infiltrato, il quale dovrà indagare sul rapimento della figlia di un giudice statunitense del quale é guardia del corpo, verrà così spedito dietro le sbarre proprio da quest'ultimo con una finta accusa per aiutarlo. Ci tengo ad avvisarvi che da questo momento in poi potrete incappare in qualche spoiler.

Dante é un duro dalle poche parole, entra in prigione e in pochi minuti sa già cosa fare e quando farlo, si mette subito in mostra con un pestaggio dal quale esce vincitore con facilità. Conquista così la simpatia di molti e l'antipatia di alcuni, che per sua fortuna sono davvero una minoranza e farà fuori ben presto. Il tutto é abbastanza rapido, anche troppo, in poco tempo il militare infiltrato riuscirà a scoprire che la figlia del giudice si trova proprio reclusa nella stessa prigione. Egli avvisa così il fratello della scoperta, il quale si finge il suo avvocato per non destare sospetti, ma questo invece di riferire le novità al giudice, decide di ricattarlo perché ha dei pesanti debiti con un malavitoso. Intanto nella prigione tra risse e pestaggi, Dante riesce a scalare le gerarchie e a farsi strada fino ad arrivare ai vertici della mafia presente nel penitenziario. Il fratello finirà molto male, la figlia verrà salvata ma Dante verrà ingannato dal giudice e condannato a rimanere in prigione, in quanto quest'ultimo pensava fosse coinvolto nell'estorsione del fratello nei suoi confronti. Egli riuscirà persino a convincere il direttore a farlo uscire per un giorno, andrà dal giudice per chiarire la questione ma il breve discorso finirà davvero male. D'ora in poi il fulcro sarà il rapimento del piccolo figliolo di Dante, in quanto un suo ex-collega lo ricatta per ottenere del denaro che naturalmente Dante non ha e da qui si apre la seconda parte della stagione.

Ambientazione molto interessante, penitenziario praticamente auto gestita dai prigionieri, le guardie sottopagate sono in balia dell bande presenti che li corrompono ogni due per tre. Alcune scene bisogna ammettere che sono state davvero fatte male, come ad esempio la scena nella quale il direttore del penitenziario cerca del denaro e sta quasi impazzendo per trovarlo, dopo uno stacco, nella scena successiva il denaro si trova già davanti a lui: dove fosse non é dato saperlo con certezza, lo si può soltanto immaginare. Anche la scelta di far finire Dante casualmente proprio nella stessa prigione dove si trovava la figlia del giudice é abbastanza discutibile, anche se semplifica parecchio lo svolgimento della storia.

Ne "il detenuto" non ci sono molti personaggi buoni, la corruzione é ovunque, a partire dal Direttore del penitenziario Peniche, losco, avido, corrotto e senza scrupoli, fino ad arrivare al suo boss della prigione, Mariano Tavares e Santito, folle carcerato che non riesce a fare a meno di drogarsi. Il più bravo di tutti é il protagonista, che non si rivelerà comunque un santo. Immancabile la storia d'amore, Dante si innamora della psicologa, la quale lo aiuterà a salvare a sua volta il figlio rapito.

Se siete amanti delle serie televisive ambientate in prigione come ad esempio OZ, Prison Break o Orange is the new black, questa potrebbe fare al caso vostro, non aspettatevi chissà che novità, viste anche alcune incongruenze e forzature già descritte in precedenza, ma si lascia vedere abbastanza piacevolmente, soprattutto grazie ai personaggi che riescono a sopraffare una trama a tratti prevedibile e limitata.

13 episodi dalla durata di una quarantina di minuti l'uno, il finale di stagione é bellino, non è dato sapersi se assisteremo ad una seconda stagione, ma dato che il prequel del 2016 ha avuto un discreto successo con la seconda la cosa sembra essere alquanto probabile.
