[AAA][검토#16] 페니워스 (Pennyworth)

There are productions that beyond the success or failure they may have with the public and especially with the box office, often seem to be unnecessary and only products that seek to squeeze the maximum of franchises or successful and notorious characters. And without a doubt, this is the case of this series, I think it's a little bit excessive, especially because there are hundreds of characters who could take advantage of the money spent on this series to have their own.

However, who doesn't like to know more about batman and about the characters that live with (for me) the best superhero of all?

So, let's begin!

Pennyworth tells us about the youth of the famous Batman butler in a London designed to remind us of the Gotham of comics. The whole series runs like a glimpse of the past, so forget about references to batman. Throughout the story we will know the personal conflicts of a man who unlike his father, a butler, wants more action and substance in his life, hence he forms his own security company as a former British soldier.

Like all stories related to superheroes we will have to get used to a slow start where we will see Pennyworth struggling to raise his modest private security company, where he will have to play as a bully in clubs and all kinds of discreet jobs, such as escorting. Everything until his life changes after meeting the father of the future Batman. Thomas Wayne.

And from his encounter to Thomas Wayne the story accelerates a little and takes an interesting turn when Alfred is involved in all kinds of secret missions led by a CIA operative who asks him for help to unravel some dangerous conspiracies and secrets. The strange thing is that the story unfolds in a somewhat clumsy way by not giving us enough data to hook us up with the plot of conspiracies and secrets.

The story is full of comings and goings, because at the bottom of Alfred's main plot and his secret missions we have his conflict with his dictatorial father, his loves with the sweet and naive dancer Esmé, who will end up involved in a lot of Alfred's little jobs and we have a varied assortment of villains in the purest style of what we saw in the Gotham series, in short a festival of things coming and going to settle in the plot.

Conclusions.

As I tell you guys at the beginning this is one more try to live from the success of the genre of superheroes. Because in Pennyworth there are no superheroes or supervillains, just a sinister organization called the Crow Society that wants a totalitarian England, but that work in the background. Pennyworth proposes an interesting approach to Batman's universe, from the perspective of one of his most iconic characters, but that's it, no more.
