Abandoned places - Uusküla Holiday Center, part I

in #abandoned6 years ago

My love for abandoned places is well-known. Be it an old military outpost, underground tunnels or deserted houses, if I spot one, i want to explore it. Towers get the same love from me - I want to climb them, although a much more dangerous interest.

This time, as we were visiting areas north of Lake Peipus, as you can read in my post on previous weekend, we had our sights set on the abandoned Uusküla Holiday Center.

I dont have any good photos from the front, so I borrowed one from the place i found the info about it originally.

heesti.blogspot.com

According to heesti.blogspot.com the complex was built for the workers of the Sillamäe Chemistry Plant, with the main building housing over 100 beds and the whole complex totaling with over 200 spots for visitors.

Unfortunately, the area and the main building was too large for us to explore completely, so we missed some of the nooks and crannies; later I found out that there is even a gigantic labyrinthic cellar to get lost in.

So, as we reached the complex gate, we ditched the car, readied the gear (flashlights, rope, knife, beer) and jumped over.

After vaulting the gate, a short walk took us to the first building. Quite small, but as it was the first we came to, we explored it thoroughly.

Seems it even had a bar and dance lounge downstairs in the cellar, with the floor so rotten, that each step pierced the floorboards. The building itself was trashed, with a few beds, lots of old books and stuff lying around. The roof beams were the only thing looking solid, the rest of the building looked ready to pass on soon, to greener pastures.

After moving onwards, our main target could be seen through the pines. The main complex.

To our unpleasant surprise, it was totally trashed. I had seen photos from explorers a few years back, and these photos had most of the furniture even in place, shelves standing with books in them. Tables, household items, chairs, name it - it was there. This time unfortunately, within a few years, hoodlums had done their number here. Seems like some guys had been throwing everything they could out of the windows, taking anything of interest or value.

Exploring the place still felt magnificient. For example, we found a room filled with old TV-sets, with an ancient snooker table stood against the wall. Couldn't get to the table though as it was under a thousand TVs :)

In a room, that could be considered a reception, a life preserver was hanging on the wall, reminding us that once this place was full of life, a holiday center under the pines of Lake Peipus, filled with guests from all places.

As we left the reception from the other side of the building, we found multiple documents scattered around. Documents with names, dates of birth, addresses on them. I guess data privacy was not a thing back then. I got a few cool photos of them, but due to protecting the persons' privacy and lack of space for my hundreds of photos, i will not share them here.

As we took the nearby stairs to the second floor, we came to a terrace adjoining ghastly windows. Something or someone had ripped the curtains to shreds and the remains of the curtains flapping in the wind made eerie sounds.

Taking a look around and deciding which way to go, we set the course to the east wing. If you take a look at the half-open door, that will take you to the movie-theatre. So, upon checking some nearby rooms, that's where we headed.

The movie theater felt glorious. While posts from a few years back show images from a totally clean place, it had been beaten up by the time we had arrived. Nevertheless, sitting in those chairs and pondering one's existence, thinking about the people that had once visited this place, felt different.

Old books lie everywhere in the main complex. Books, drawings, paintings, calendars, brochures, dataclips, admission sheets etc.

Moving over to the large balcony outside the theater, we went further into the east wing.

If you want to get an idea how trashed the place was, look at the floor. Most of the floors in this building are covered with debris and old stuff.

Pictured above is a cutout from an old magazine and a tube of glue. "Kummiliim", the name of the glue, was popular amongst inhalers as well, providing en easy and cheap high. If one didn't care about the health hazards that it brought with itself.

In the corner room, it appeared, someone had recently lived. Pillows, blankets, some bare necessities and even curtains on the windows. Perhaps someone even lived there now, as i can swear that i heard voices multiple times when exploring the complex and some other party members did too. Other members, the ones with the lousy ears ditched these talks with accusing us of being scaredycats :)

Looking at the old curtained window and the nature outside, it almost feels like an old summerhome, not a trashed building complex.

Although someone had ripped the light switch out of the wall, they somehow had left the mirror intact. I couldn't resist taking a photo of myself, thinking if i would see a ghastly figure behind me, when exploring the photos later, back home. Feel free to zoom and investigate.

Moving on to the next room, it felt like a cafeteria. With it's large windows, adjoining balcony, a bar and high ceiling, this could have been the place where the crowds got their morning coffees and perhaps even evening drinks.

By the way, this was the same room, that @raili found that creepy doll in.

I missed the doll because i found something more interesting. Two old teaglasses. I remember, as a child, we drank tea and juice from these, while the older people gurgled vodka straight down from them.

You don't remember? Good. Probably spared you some childhood trauma.

To be continued...

Stay tuned for more as i prepare the photos from us exploring the west wing

Love this adventure. I'd be nervous that a crazy person was in there.

No crazies except me :)

The place looks like the abandon park in jurassic park. I found out also in my research that there is a abandon city elsewhere
