The Meugang Tradition in Aceh
Tradition meugang the tradition of eating beef or buffalo. For the people of Aceh, welcoming Ramadan or Lebaran without meugang will feel bland. Although it is not an obligation, it is a must, so it is rarely found in the people of Aceh who do not eat beef or buffalo before Ramadan comes.
Hari Meugang also has become a place to build kinship relationship in Islamic context. The history of meugang
The meugang tradition in Aceh started from the time of the greatest Sultan of Aceh's leadership, Sultan Alaiddin Iskandar Muda Meukuta Alam (1607-1636) in the Aceh Darussalam Kingdom. At that time the sultan held a large number of slaughters of cattle and the flesh was distributed to all his people.
Gradually, until now exactly in the year 1439 H coincides with the year 2018 AD, Meugang became a tradition for the majority Muslim community of Aceh. Although the model is different from Era Sultan Iskandar Muda, the meaning contained beneath it remains the same. This celebration is also part of the joy of the people of Aceh to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. Earlier in the day, residents had prepared preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan full of blessings.
