A day in the life of an Actifit Mentor.

A day in the life of an Actifit Mentor. A report for @rosatravels and @mcfarhat

Being an Actifit mentor is fun but is also certainly a challenge. If I commit to doing something I normally go 'all in!' and this is no different. There are varying degrees of commitment and effort needed for the different types of mentee, ranging from an experienced steemit user, to the "what's a blockchain?" crew. They all present different challenges so I thought I would update everyone on my current situation, go through my routine and maybe give a few hints and tips along the way.

#teamgazza

So this is my initiative to motivate, inform and add a sense of belonging to my mentees. It goes without saying that I support all of my mentees with follows, daily upvotes and comments and the odd resteem. I also include everyone on my own daily actifit posts, make sure they get a mention and link their previous days posts on mine. I want to encourage a bit of togetherness and teamwork, make the mentee feel like they are not on their own. It also adds an element of competition that is healthy and promotes fitness. After all, that's what we are trying to do here, right?

The guide

I made a guide on how to use the Actifit app. As soon as I was accepted as an official Actifit mentor this was the first thing I thought about doing. I use it for reference but also as a step by step guide for the uninitiated. Yes, it took awhile to make. I screen shot everything step by step and adjusted everything in MS Paint, but it has definitely been worth it. I recruited 2 mentees that I had never had contact with previous(@momijiscrypto and @shakkei) and the feedback from the guide itself has been awesome. It was always intended to be for anyone that could benefit from it, whether you are a mentor, potential user or just a user that needs a bit of guidance. Please feel free to check it out and use as you see fit. The link is here. https://steemit.com/actifit/@cheese4ead/a-guide-to-the-actifit-fitness-tracker

The Whatsapp Group

One thing that I have recently added is a whatsapp group. This is for the mentees that I have in my contacts and knew previously, ie family and close friends. There are 5 different mentees on the group and they are all new to steem and new to the whole process. Most of them have little to zero knowledge of crypto in general and need a lot of guidance.

The free referral from Actifit is a real bonus in trying to encourage new people into the crypto space. Most people are still not able to or not bothered to go through all the hassle of starting in crypto. I am receiving lots of questions on all sorts of things related to crypto, steemit and actifit and it's vital that I keep on top of the situation if I have any designs on them sticking around long term. The whatsapp group has been very important in this.

My Actifit Day

Well, first and foremost I am an Actifit user. I have a goal of posting every day and a target of 10,000 steps. Some days are easier than others. The weather has improved here in Bucharest so it has become easier once again. On the days that I coach or play football, I don't need to plan. I hit 10k fairly comfortably. The days without football are a bit more of a challenge. I try to walk everywhere to make sure I have a solid base. I always choose the stairs regardless of how many and if need be I add a little to my journey. That normally does it, unless it rains! Boooooooooooo.

Once my target is completed I turn my attention to my team of mentees. As well as upvoting, commenting and occasionally resteeming their daily posts, I add all of them to my daily post. I try to encourage others to visit their posts as well as each other. I try to get to know the mentees that I didn't know from before and offer my own words of encouragement.

My mentees

@momijiscrypto was already on steemit and found me through my guide. Lots of walking and a bit of running. Gardening too. Regularly hits 10k.
@shakkei was already on steemit and found me through my guide. Is super busy working in clothes design but finds the time for walks fairly regularly.
@foxyspirit is a good friend of mine and a partner in the @phctop3 contest. She is a SAHM and a brilliant professional cake maker. Very busy again but usually hits 10k when out on walks.
@pennio is one of my good mates in Bucharest and new to steemit. He teaches and is on his feet all day. If you want a challenge, try to keep up with his step count!
@thekitchenfairy is a PHC friend and Steem Witness. She makes awesome posts and regularly hits the 5000 target for Actifit rewards.
@mono.rosado is my daughter Jaime and is new to steemit although she has kept an eye on my progress over the year. She in the middle of exams but has posted regularly.
@theunderbaker is my brother and new to steemit. He's a busy guy but is out an about for his job so steps should be easy to come by.
@bexbaker is my sister in law and also new to steemit. She is a crypto skeptic, so I was kind of shocked that she agreed to go for the referral. I am determined to keep her going and convince her that crypto is here to stay.
@noodle.doo is a good friend and another non crypto person. She is looking for fitness, motivation and Actifit combined with me as her mentor, should be a good fit!

FAQ

Here are some of the questions that I have received over the last few weeks.

What are AFIT Tokens?

Don't forget that this concept for the new to steem members is going to be alien. My advice is tell they the very basic stuff but advise them, to hold on to and accumulate the tokens for better upvotes. Keep it simple for now.

Why is my photo the wrong way around?

Two things that I have found to stop this happening. Try to keep them landscape (if you can't then crop or reduce, if possible) and don’t put filters or other mobile phone camera tricks on. I tends to not like it.

My step count disappeared?

You only have until midnight to post from the app. If you miss it you lose it or get ‘Pumpkined’ as @pennio calls it. 😂

What is my rank and how do I get my reward value up?

There is no better explanation than Actifit’s own reward post comment:

Actifit rewards and upvotes are based on your:
User rank: which depends on your delegated SP, accumulated AFIT tokens, rewarded post count and recent rewarded activity.
Post score: which depends on your activity count, post content, post upvotes, quality comments, moderator review and user rank.
To improve your user rank, delegate more, pile up more AFIT tokens, and post more.
To improve your post score, get to the max activity count, work on improving your post content, improve your user rank, engage with the community to get more upvotes and quality comments.

Why didn’t I receive an Actifit Reward for my post?

You have to get at least 5000 to receive the Actifit reward on your post. You can always post and receive upvotes from others but 5000 is the minimum for AFIT Tokens and Actifit upvotes.

Dude! I have to up my game! If I would have had my phone on me yesterday I would have had a great and funny post. Piper got loose and I had to run after her the little bugger. She ran around half the town. I tried getting her to run to me, I pretended I had treats, I stopped running to her to get her to stop taking off. I was scared she would have went on the highway! And she knew she was doing wrong! She would take off to other peoples houses and would go to their door hoping they would let her in. As soon as I would approach she would take off! Oh, I was not happy!

Luckily she went to a person down the street from me who also has a dog and has seen me walking Piper and train her. As soon as she got to his door, he opened it and grabbed her collar. Thank goodness for great neighbours and understanding ones. With Piper being the breed that she is, that could have turned sour very fast.

Awesome post my friend and awesome that you are keeping track of us. I like how you talked about the things that you do and what its about. Gives us a bit of light on the work that you need to do.

So what is this Whatsapp thing?

Thank you for the mention and the kind words of being a brilliant professional cake maker :P It means a lot to me ^_^

Hey @foxyspirit

First off, you are a great cake maker. I have seen the evidence! Not tasted it yet though!! 😁 We will have to change that one day.

Whatsapp is an instant messaging app. It's now owned by Facebook but wasnt before. You can create groups on there and it's perfect for motivating the mentees! 😁

I have enjoyed being a mentor. It's definitely something I do well, teaching, coaching, mentoring. It's a rewarding job helping people to understand stuff and have their own success.Just got to get a few of you over the line now! 😁

That must have been nerve wracking chasing Piper around. I have a memory of helping to catch a friends dog who proceeded to run on to a busy road and got clipped by a car. He was ok other than a broken leg but it could have been worse. I'm glad she is safe. High five to the savvy neighbor who thought quickly.

Thanks for your lovely comments, Foxy.

They are always appreciated.

Would be fun to share an awesome cake with the gang :D

I might look into Whatsapp. Seems as though there are a few people using it.

Happy that being a mentor brings joy. A job that brings fulfilment is what I'm seeing.

It was definitely nerve wracking. This is the first time she's done that, so now I know I can't trust her off leash at all. The thought of training her to be off leash did come to me as an idea last winter but nope, not anymore. Yesterday I took her off her leash (tied to a tree) to bring her in. She was asking to go back inside, but once loose she just bolted.

You are welcome! Having more time I will be able to come around more often :)

You are the ultimate mentor! Very elaborate post on everything you have been doing and how your mentoring is going. This is a quality post - deserves so much more - wish I was a WHALE.

Thank you so much @blueeyes8960

I have put some effort into it but it's been fun too. I love helping other, I do it for a living anyway, so it's all kind of natural to me.

Glad to be on the team. It has definitely helped motivate me to get out and go. It's just something about having someone or multiple people doing it alongside you that makes it feel worthwhile.

I had been meaning to ask if there was a way for everyone to communicate easier. I'm mainly on Discord, but I do have telegram and signal as well.

Great to have you on the team. To be fair, you've smashed it. Great feedback. I'm really glad that it has helped and that the group thing works.

It would be great if everyone was on discord or some other chat. I don't think they are though. Maybe Actifit could think about adding something to the app?

Anyway, great job! It's been a pleasure. 😁
