Music Jukebox #5 – Some music to dance to dance to…

in #actifit6 years ago (edited)

From the title of the post you probably realized am going to share some dance music.

You are absolutely right. But it is not going to be some modern dance music you hear at the clubs. To be honest, I don’t like it and don’t know any of the artists or DJs.

I am talking about the Latin side of things…

And let me take you to the Caribbean for some Salsa !!!

Salsa evolved from earlier Cuban dance forms such as Son, Son Montuno, cha cha cha, Mambo and Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena which were popular in the Caribbean, Latin America and the Latino communities in New York since the 1940s.

In many styles of salsa dancing, as a dancer shifts their weight by stepping, the upper body remains level and nearly unaffected by the weight changes. Weight shifts cause the hips to move. Arm and shoulder movements are also incorporated. Salsa generally uses music ranging from about 150 bpm (beats per minute) to around 250 bpm, although most dancing is done to music somewhere between 160–220 bpm.

That was a lot of science … Now let’s move our butts…

Bachata is a style of social dance from In the Dominican Republic another style of social dancing was created called Bachata and now it is danced all over the world. As a dance it has evolved a lot from the 60s when it was created with a lot more freedom in the movement and a lot more sensuality.

For those more traditional and old school we have Tango Argentino. It originated in the 1880s along the River Plate (Río de Plata), the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. Tango is a dance that has influences from African, Native American and European culture. Initially it was a dance of low classes and slaves but in time it become popular and mainstream. In 2009, the tango was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

And speaking of tango yesterday I took my first tango class. A salsa and bachata class are scheduled for October 1st .

I liked it a lot. It is a free style dance, which means there isn’t a certain sequence of steps, the couple has to communicate and coordinate in order to dance and not step into each other or into other couples. To my surprise this relates to another passion of mine: NLP. In NLP we call the process rapport, pace and lead. I will elaborate on that as I have more classes and more experience.

Listen to music , enjoy music , dance to music…

Play loud and STEEM ON !!!

And my step count for today ...
