80km Bike Ride & Actifit

My backside aches, I’m tired and my brain is still recovering from the torture from the last 20km of today’s 80km ride. Despite the beautiful weather, it was a slog to the bitter end. It’s a two way trip that looked like this:

Every time I do this particular ride, I swear I’d never do it again. But there I was, cursing and swearing, and doing it again. I also did what I always did, I called my husband for moral support on the last 20km. I needed to share my suffering. At one point the dialogue went like this:

Warning and apologies: bad language below

Me: OMG, this is shit, so fucking awful! Would Mount Evelyn get here already!

Him: It’s the hardest part. Just turn your gears down and you should be fine.

Me: My gears are right down. I’m peddling lots, so good for actifit steps. I’m just not going very far! This is taking forever!

Him: Well, if you’ve got 3km to go uphill and you’re travelling 10/hr, then it’s going to take 18 min. You’re probably going slower than that.

Me: Would you STFU, I don’t need a maths lesson to remind me of the torture! I’m dying here!

Him: (laughing)

Me: (Starts singing to distract from torture) — OMFG, my ass hurts!

Him: (laughing)

Me: This is soooo hard...(Moaning)
Me: This is so long! (More moaning)
Me: OMG, will it ever end?! (Moaning & groaning)

Him: (laughing) You sound you’re doing porn.

So much for moral support!

Okay...

I laughed at my capacity to whine so much. It really was less me-time and more me-complaining-time. However, I’ll finish this post with a link to one of my favourite cycling tracks, because there were happy content moments of being outdoors and moving.

It was worth it 33k of steps later! So thank you @actifit for the providing the tool to get me outside.

Same as with a hangover!

hahaahahah this was hilarious to read.
and most importantly wow, amazing effort and well done @linnyplant !!

This is quite a distance! WOW! Amazing workout! :-)

Lovely to see you pop by again, Peter. Needed to dust of the cobwebs. I’m trying to kick start my attitude as summer gets closer. Thanks for the comment. <3

Wow ! Oh yeah a great people activity! I need to buy a bike!

Thanks for the visit, Pedro. Yes, get the bike!! I can’t recommend it enough. It’s not only productivity, people are happier on a bike, just not while doing an 80km ride. ;)

Oh yes, bike is life! I'm wanting one with those huge tires, to use on the soft sand of the beach, because here right in front of where I live has many miles of environmental protection area full of dunes.

That explains it. A bike ride. Nice. I haven’t done a long ride in too many years. They can definitely hurt your bum:-)

Since you are serious about getting into shape, I highly recommend buying a new toy to peddle. ;)

My husband was resistant, claimed that it wasn’t good for the family’s jewels and he was a total princess. I made him spend around 3k on a good quality mountain bike with dual suspension because I desperately wanted him to cycle too. I insisted he got the most comfy bike seat in the store as insurance he didn’t complain. Now, he loves his bike and being let out on cycling adventures. It’s a great way to cross train and prevent overuse injuries too. I’m not sure what terrain options you have, but it’s worth considering. Bikes make people happy. :)

Sorry, I always go on when talking about people cycling more — also, you’ll need pockets to bring it for actifit step counting!

I’ve got an old road bike that I can’t get rid off. It’s a twenty plus year old frame that I outfitted when I came to Japan. I rode it over a thousand kilometers from Niigata to Fukuoka my first year here and now I can’t get rid of it because it’s become too much of a sentimental object;-)

I get out on it for short rides around town, but I don’t do day rides anymore. My one day off is usually spent with my kids. I look forward to taking weekend biking trips with them when they’re older.

I just like the fact you actually had enough energy to call your husband. I usually just die slowly alone on those long rides lol

Oh, I always have energy reserves to call my husband to whine. Hehehehe. I remember the last time I fell off my bike the sequence of events was as follows:

  1. Check phone was okay —most important.
  2. Call husband to whine I crashed.
  3. Check for injuries...

I’m sure if I was at the point of death, my husband will hear all about just before I gasp my very last breath...

Thank you for the visit. Always lovely to see a new face. :)
