My Actifit & Ulog Report Card: February 11 2019

It has been an emotionally tiring day. Rats have invaded the house. We heard them working on breaking a hole in the wall.

When my son in law came today to help me move the fridge, we were shocked how big the hole was. You see it in the picture above.

They had stolen a dish towel and dragged it into the hole.

He is the best son in law ever. He fixed everything and hopefully, they won’t be able to come in again.

But as much as I love my garden, I don’t love the rodents that come along with the deal.

As I said. I really miss my rat terrier Boya.

She kept things under control. But am not ready to look for a new dog. She was special.

Don't read on if you are squirmish. Last night, I had set sunflower traps. This is what you do. Fill a 5 gal bucket halfway with water and sprinkle black oil sunflowerseeds on top until the water is not visible anymore. Place the bucket in a place you think rats are hanging out. Add a ramp that they can easily run up to the top.

The trick is to fill the bucket enough that they can't touch ground and jump out but not so much that they just hang down and eat the seeds without jumping in.

I only got four last night. Hoping to get some more today.

Don't look if you feel bad about killing anything - truthfully, if there were only a few rats around eating some fruit and such, I wouldn't care. But coming in the house and eating everything on a tree (like all the pomegranates) I have to put my foot down.

They are in the compost now. Some chickens will eat them - no mine... but they make a good addition to the compost pile...

Anyway, dealing with rodents grosses me out and I spend the day taking care of this particular problem and what I had planned didn't get done... such is life... Still, I am tired and it is early. Going to sleep now and hopefully dream of something pleasant.

Nice count. Your rats must be Actifit rats. Lol. They look like rats that are into body building. They a huge. 4 of them can lift a baby and run. Lol. Your cooking must have attracting not only the neighbors but rats too. Good you finally got rid of them. Cheer up better them than you.

I know, right. They are well fed LOL. I am sure there are many more ... But as long as they don't come inside...

Lol, they're not like rats. Woo oooo

Puuh, I don't like rats. But they are so clever. You have a look, that they don't find another way to come into your house.

Yes, they are very clever and they are a fact of life - we just usually don't see them. But I will do everything I can to keep them out of the house...

Rodents are trouble for anyone with a garden and a normal thing. I know you were very attached to that gorgeous dog of yours but do consider getting a new one or at least a cat to help you because otherwise, you will be living on rat territory :(

They are a fact of life. We have so many neighborhood cats and none of them seem very interested in eating the rats - or catching them for that matter. Boya was special and different from regular minpins. My other do runs the other way when she sees anything move... When we got the 2, we weren't looking for a dog. A neighbor dumped them on us. And I am very hesitant to take on the responsibility of another one...

haha - I have watched it. That was not the kind of rat in my house LOL

I hope you had pleasant dreams :)
Yes that was disgusting but I live in a country where depending on where you eat, you'd see rats scurrying around...
They are everywhere ...

Thank you :)
I know that they are everywhere and especially when you live in a country where things grow easily, it is hard to keep them under control. Still, don't like them - even though they are smart...
