Buda Castle Adventure - My Actifit Report Card: March 15 2019

in #actifit5 years ago (edited)

Hi friends. I hope that you are doing well.

Today's step count comes primarily from walking around Budapest, doing tourist things. After being in this city for nearly 7 months, my girlfriend and I finally got around to seeing some of the major sites in the city. She had the day off of work because it's a national holiday, and the museum we went to was free for today.

We started off our adventure by going to one of her coworker's houses for a few hours. Her coworker will be going away for the weekend, and we'll be cat sitting. Why I didn't take any pictures of the cat, I don't know. He was pretty cute, but is a very aggressively playful cat so I shall definitely be getting some scratches this weekend.

After she left, we went to our first major tourist spot, Parliament (shown below). We were under the impression that this would be free to visit today, and this building is one we've been wanting to check our because it apparently has a very interesting interior, and has the most stairs of any government building.

As you can see, it's quite large, but I was definitely curious as to what the layout is that there are so many stairs.

I thought this was an interesting angle

Unfortunately, we only got to see the outside of Parliament today. We were told that's this building is free tomorrow. Not to waste our efforts in getting there, we wandered around some more and saw some cool sculptures and other things that were nearby.

We decided to head back home, a little discouraged as we had planned to do stuff today. Upon getting home, I looked up what was actually happening today, and it turned out that unlike Parliament, Buda Castle and the museums in it were free today. So after a quick lunch, we went back out.

Now on the Buda side, we got off the subway and started walking up towards Buda castle. This area of the city is full of old buildings with interesting architecture and colors.

I thought this was a really pretty shot

I apologize if this images are rotated. @actifit does this, and I have no idea how to fix it. If anyone does, that'd be awesome.

I personally love when ivy takes over buildings like this

After a fairly steep climb, we made it to what we thought was Buda castle.

Turns out this is Fisherman's Bastion

The view from here was pretty amazing, you can see a huge portion of the Pest side.

You can see how small Parliament looks here. We're way up in the air

After wandering around Fisherman's Bastion for some time, and looking at the markets, we finally made our way to the actual Buda castle.

One small area of the castle

Once inside, I took tons of pictures of stuff, as we toured a museum. I'm not going to flood this post with those images, but I can share some in comments if desired.

After a very long wander through this huge museum, we went back outside and tried to find some of the other places that we thought were open. It turns out it was only this museum, everything else was closed. So, we decided to head home. At this point, we were quite far from the subway line, so it was a bit of a walk back.

This is to show the distance

In the above picture, that tall orange spire is the building from earlier. Unfortunately it seems the image has rotated, and I'm sorry for that. Eventually I'll figure out how to correct it.

After walking down a ton of steps, and one very interesting building that seemed to be exclusively for a spiral staircase, we got back to the river and followed it to the subway. That is definitely one thing I will give credit to this city for, the public transportation here is awesome. Way better than it was back home in Portland. It will definitely be something to have to readjust to when I get home.

Overall, it was a pretty good day. I got to see some interesting things, and spend the day outside with my girlfriend. Hopefully tomorrow's adventure will be just as fun.

Until next time,

Aloha
