Kandy and a symbol of peace
Kandy is a Unesco World Heritage Town, and has a great deal of places worth a visit. Since nature is one of my passions, among all those places one of my favourites is the botanical garden, with a huge number of perfectly identified and species of flowers, bushes and trees.
Apart from the flora, squirrels are omnipresent and lots of different bird species can be seen as well, such as minahs, ringneck parakeets, coucals, spotted doves... there is even a sign at the entrance describing some of these birds.
But today, there was time for some culture as well. And I finally learned what was the coloured flag I had seen waving in various parts of the country.
This is the International Buddhist flag, and maybe buddhism being the main religion of the country explains why everyone seems to be so kind and friendly. The vertical stripes mean eternal world peace, while the horizontal lines represent harmony among all races. Great way to see the world!
