My test with Actifit and first run report in awhile.

in #actifit6 years ago (edited)

I loved the idea of Actifit right from the very start, in fact I’ve been following two other crypto currency projects called GYM Rewards and Beat (The Beat one is a referral link, but the GYM rewards one is past the bounty stage so just a straight link if you want to check them out). They are both going to reward proof of exercise. In fact this is the first thing I started researching when I learned about Steemit, blockchain and cryptocurrency. In fact even before all this I used to use an app called PACT that rewarded you for completing your exercise.

See I’m in the category that needs an extra little push to exercise, compared to a lot of these other dedicated fitness guru’s all around steemit here. PS if you are into fitness and need some extra motivation be sure to check out #fitnation and #runningproject tags they seem like the places where a lot of the runners hang out.

Well at first I was super disappointed that I was going to have to wait till the IOS app comes out since I don’t use an android phone, but then a friend here @tbnfl4sun suggested I just pick up and old phone just for this app. To me in sounded like a great idea and I remembered that I actually have a really old android phone that I used to use when I was travelling since it was unlocked and easy to chance the SIM card. I was pretty damn surprised that it even turned on let alone held a charge. And I was even more surprised when it was actually able to download the app. I’m sure once it’s has more features it’s going to be a huge pain since the screen is so darn small, but none the less it actually mostly worked! I say mostly since I’m not sure I agree with the step counter, it seems to have a big discrepancy from my Fitbit.

I’m going to look at downloading some upgrades for it and see if I can trouble shoot it.

The one awesome thing is just testing it out and building up my steps got me out of my 3 week running rut and on one of the hottest days of the year! It was probably a bit foolish since my pace was terrible, but at least I got out there and ran.

Review

The post editor was impossible to use on the little phone, so I can't say much about that, so I just pretyped this post on a document file, then instantly edited the post once it hit the blockchain and my computer, I'm sure I'll be able to use the IOS version properly.

Otherwise like above for me on my crumby phone the step counter seams to over estimate by a bit, I'm not sure if that's on the end of the app or the end of my phone, but like I said I am going to play around with some of the phone settings so see if getting it up to date helps a bit.

Once again I am super in love with the concept and will be following them very closely and in fact I also delegated 250SP to help them get started and earn a few SMT's along the way as well.

My one concern, as I would like to be a daily user, is that I worry I'm going to clog up my blog with step posts everyday. I have a lot of followers and am on a few friends auto voters I don't like to blog more than once per day, but what I'm considering is exactly what I did today. Pre right a post, likely even about something totally unrelated, then post my steps from the app, go in and edit my post to be a post about something else with just the step footer at the bottom. Although I'm not sure it that would work, properly, but I will definitely ask.

Anyways we sure to check out @actifit and give it a try

Thanks for the review, @phelimint. I have been wanting to test this app out myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm also concerned about "spamming" my feed with step posts, but a possible solution could be to create a new account that can be used for this purpose.

I've seen this app mentioned a few times lately. I'm going to be lazy and instead of reading more ask if either of you know how it's monetized?

Right now it seems like the team has gotten a lot of delegations, which are then used to upvote the people who use the app. I'm sure they have plans for an SMT or something like that, but I haven't really read that much into the project yet either.

It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds. I feel like we're at a point (especially with SMTs) where a lot of novel business plans are going to be tried, mostly fold, but generate some really interesting models for the future.

I am leaning towards the new account idea, I've been posting and editing, but don't like how the tagging works, but right now it's just too hard to post properly from my little phone.

It's probably the best solution to post it from another account to make everything as easy as possible.

How old is old? Maybe some of the older phones might not have as accurate GPS thingies? (I actually have no idea about hardware I'm just wildly guessing XD).

You could always do the alt account thing if you're worried about flooding people's feeds? Though I know of some who do 4 posts a day or sometimes even more so I don't think an extra one is going to hurt too much (well at least it won't bother me too much anyway XP).

Have fun with this new thing :)

Congrats! You just reached the top level milestone via using Actifit fitness tracker and provided Proof of Activity!
You accordingly gained 100 Actifit tokens for attaining 10,000+ steps!
You also received an upvote via @actifit account.

Thank you for a fantastic writeup and review, the delegation, and for going the extra mile to try it out on an old phone.
That advise from @tbnfl4sun is spot on! Yes we did our best to make the app compatible even with older phones. Still we will have soon an iOS version for you guys :)

For the step count difference, the discrepancy can be between sensor readings, hardware difference, sensibility levels or algorithms. We are working on providing some more options to users so that they would be able to somewhat adjust the sensitivity levels of the HW sensors, or switch between options - whichever are supported on the device itself.

It's also interesting to learn about those 2 projects you mentioned, haven't heard about them before, but they seem exciting. I'll check them out further.

Thanks again, and happy to have you on board this project with us!

Hey man, great to for you stop by, I am certainly quite excited about the project and suspect I will be a daily poster, I'm leaning towards making a second account to post these daily posts, will that be a problem when it comes to SMT distributions.
