Whether you’re just getting started as a freelancer, or you’ve been on this career path for years, never underestimate the importance of having a (preferably) .com website beyond the usual social media profiles. There are several ways in which you can create valuable website content that not only represents you in the best professional light possible for potential clients, but also serves as a great resource for visitors in general.

Show what you can do. Your freelancing website doesn’t have to just be a portfolio of your work. It’s about finding engaging ways to convey how much of an expert you are in your chosen freelancing field. Let’s say, for example, that your niche is photography. Why not create some tutorials in the form of how-to articles and/or videos? Perhaps the idea of creating an online course or eBook might be more your style. Maybe you’d even like to write reviews on the latest photo editing software and camera equipment.

Always place quality before quantity. This is especially true if your freelancing website is more of a blog. Although regularly updating your website is still the best practice, that’s no longer the main component for ranking higher in search results. Algorithms change regularly, but that won’t stop search engines from craving 450+ words of thoughtfully keyworded, informative articles. As for other sources of media, such as photos or videos, make sure they’re saved with descriptive titles to increase their chances of being prominently archived accordingly.

Strike a balance between the personal and the professional. In your quest to produce engaging content, it can be easy to fall into the trap of sharing more about your personal life, hobbies, etc., than your professional life, which defeats the purpose of having a freelancing website in the first place! That doesn’t mean, however, that you should get rid of the former altogether, though! In fact, it’s actually more valuable to have equal shares of both for the sake of relatability.

If you’re particularly dedicated to making your freelancing website its best, then chances are you’ve come across at least a few resources that promise success if you follow a certain formula. The truth is, there’s no one way to add value to your website content. There are too many variables in the way that the Internet landscape functions as a whole. One thing is certain, though: if you’re not passionate about the content you’re creating, it’ll show. So, skip that option altogether, focus on the positives, and your website will be all the greater for it.
